The Cult of Canoe

I ordered a Pardue/Queen collab canoe whittler pattern in stag. It is at my inlaws, waiting for me for Christmas!

Paul...That's one nice lookin Canoe. 35 years old and still looks brand new...is it SS or carbon...I'm guessing SS. You have taken good care of it.

Caseknife64...please do

Gevonovich, I'm pretty sure it's Cases's good ole CV. Not 100% certain but they started to stamp if it was stainless back in the day---anyone who know's different and confirm that'd be great. For some reason that Stick's in my head:)

Thanks,

Paul

Here's a question regarding the Canoe pattern...

Who was producing the Canoe pattern pre 1970?

Quit carrying a stockman in favor of a canoe. I found that it fits my hand better and seems more robust than the stockman. Had lots of issues breaking tips on the clip blade on the stockman. Would like to see a canoe with a sheepsfoots vice the pen

thatotherguy....hope we see some more pictures

will62...I like the way it handles as well although I do like my stockmans as well...lol

I thought exactly the same thing when I started carrying my Canoe. Then, thanks to another forumite, I discovered there is one. And it looks great. AG Russell / Buck Canoe:

Not cheap but steel is better than the average stainless, and it does look like a very fine knife.

I won this boker canoe in a giveaway last year on this forum.

This baby butterbean belongs to my SO who signs on from time to time.

I'm not sure what it is about the simple lines and clean looks of the canoe that attracts me but I have a half dozen or more in different handle materials and even carry a few of them.

Trig...What a fine knife to win. I really like the butterbean and I SO need one.

mhawg..lets see some pics...lol

Mine was cutting steak the other night, and I now have blue clouds all around the canoe etching. I hear CV does this (this is my first CV knife).

The Canoe I really warmed to is one I've never owned, Queen Cutlery's Cozy Glen. Some very nice bone scales indeed and single-spring. Still looking....

Got a Böker in Washboard Greenbone, it's OK but I find it a bit heavy for its size and the secondary Pen is rather puny. Böker carbon sharpens up very keenly indeed.

.

I first became aware of those after seeing one here and have been looking for one since. Evidently they're hard to find. Makes me wonder how many were made. (??)

I could never find a CASE butterbean I liked, so about 30 years ago I found a EYE Brand "small canoe" that has the exact dimensions of the butterbean. It is a simple knife with black bone scales and the EYE shield on one of them. It has been an excellent knife, seen a lot of use, and is still one of my favorite small knives.

So if you can't find a CASE butterbean, remember that there is a great alternative out there.

Robert....Thanks for the information on the Eye Brand!! I will look them up right now.

Will and Big...you guys have me interested in seeing the Cozy Glen!
