The cult of the peanut.

Replaces a Kershaw Chive that seems to have lost its way.

Talking about losing them, I emptied my pockets when I got home from work several months ago, and to my dismay, no peanut. Checked the truck, retraced my steps. Nope, hour drive straight home. Finally chalked it up, and went to sleep. Got to work the next morning, and there it was, sitting on the asphalt in my parking spot, looking all kinds of lonesome. Guess I accidentally pulled it out when I got my keys.

Loosing a peanut is a automatic violation of Cult rules. This means one year of double secret probation.

During this probation you will observe the following protocol: 1. Nothing goes in the pocket with a peanut, with the sole exception of a small flashlight like a Fenix EO1. Keys, change, good luck items, and all other items will go in other pockets. 2. A loosely wadded up bandana will always be on top of said peanut at all times.

We'll be watching.

I've decided to spread the peanut love to non-knife people. I carry a Case rough black peanut every day. The only days I don't are when I'm carrying a smooth chestnut for fancier occasions or some such other "nut". I've accumulated several. :D So what am I going to do to spread the joy of the peanut? A buddy of mine bought some Rough Rider knives not too long ago and between seeing them and reading positive reviews, I decided to order up a few of the peanuts. Not bad little blades all told. While I don't remember who, or even if it was on BF, I read about a guy that used to carry a cheaper "beater" knife and when someone asked to borrow a knife, he'd just give them that one and tell them to keep it since they obviously need a knife and now they have one to carry. So, I've decided to do much the same thing. At $7 or $8 a pop. I think I can part with a RR peanut here and there if someone seems to be in need of an EDC. It doesn't happen often that someone asks to borrow a knife, but when it does, I believe I'll make a gift of a peanut to someone. It's nothing to drop an extra peanut in the back pocket with my wallet. People that I know have knives and maybe forgot it or if I know they wouldn't carry it anyway....well, they won't qualify. I'm talking strangers for the most part. How's that for growing the cult? :)

Maybe I spoke too soon about giving away peanuts.

While I was uploading photographs of the two red bone Case knives that arrived in today's mail, my wife walked by and looked into my knife box. The following conversation ensued.
__________

"How many knives do you have now? Can I have one?"

"You can have whichever one you want."

She first picked up the yellow Camillus 22 pony jack and asked, "Is this the one you gave your Grandad?"

"No, that one is in the bedroom on the dresser."

"Oooh, I want this one!" she exclaimed as she picked up my chestnut bone peanut, carefully opening and admiring the blades.

"Of course you do, it is probably the best knife in the world!"
__________

Guess I need to get her a peanut of her very own (to accompany the Victorinox Hiker she carries in her purse, and Classic on her keyring).

So, along with our son who carries a 3220 yeller CV peanut, I guess we are moving up to a three peanut family.

A 'nut for everyone!

Well Doug, my wife has a nice little collection of knives also, a Vic tinker, Boker subcom claw & rhino calf, CRKT turtle, and a Mora, when we are out she's always asking me for my peanut so a got her a pink RR peanut and she loves it I'll probably get her a Case peanut sometime soon.

Cult guys,
I have a Peanut & really tried to edc it.I really tried to have an affection for it...I really did!! After 2 weeks I gave up & went back to carrying a LARGE trapper!I'm feeling a lot better now! LOL.

This is exactly why to qualify, it must be a stranger. :) And they don't get to choose. It's whatever Rough Rider or otherwise decent but inexpensive knife I decide to carry as an extra. :)

I just got my first Peanut today. Had to order one thru the mail. A Red Bone CV came in a nice little package. What a nice little knife!! And sharp as any knife I've ever received. I think I might join the peanut cult. And I might have a problem of Case Fever!

i wish i can join you guys but i'm feeling bummed out with my chestnut bone peanut. it arrived late (typical in my country) and discovered even later that the kicks on both blades were deeply 'mashed' on striking the spring repeatedly (by the former owner and this was supposed to be NIB!) it was so bad i quickly lost interest. it's brother, a chestnut bone small toothpick is just fine.

q: does mashing of the kick really happen with continued snapping or is the blade a fluke due to bad heat treat? thanks.

I joined the cult... the first one I could not keep, it was a Pinched Peanut from AG Russell, I missed the half stop to much

the Case will stay and now off to the workshop, it needs a leather slipcase

That's a great looking nut!

Is it a trick of the light, or is it a richer yellow than the normal creamier yellow I see on Case knives? It's gonna look great with a nice contrasting patina.

Carl.

Thank you Carl.

I cannot compare the colors, the last Delrin Case I had is long gone. It is a very nice color anyway and I already got started on the patina, there were some apples to cut for my daughter.
