The Deer Hunter - Buck 118 Personal (permanent thread - keep adding)

Lol
I don't plan on showing him my 402.
....I've known him 55 years..... He knows my weaknesses.

Edit
In reply to the suggestion I show him an akonua......
I tried to reply / quote. I had problems too.

Me and my regular hunting buddy (Billy in the black t-shirt) cleaning a doe he shot back in October 2017. We are both using Buck 118 knives to clean the deer (his was made in 1994 - a gift from me) mine is my favorite (a two-liner). Billy is a retired inspector from the FDA, when I'm with him he insists I wear disposable gloves to clean deer! OH

A few "back-ups" all still new and unused, when those three users I showed get worn out I will go to these (thinking these mint ones might end up with nephews or hunting buddies before the "wear out" date of the old ones arrives). A mint Three-line, Tip-down - this one was hard for me to find in good shape, only made one year. A NIB Three-line, Tip-up, only old Buck 118 I have that is still in its original packing. A D-2, currently my only "special steel" variation now that I sold the 5160 variation. That's all I have left to contribute to this thread. I'll close with the fact that I really enjoy using these little knives - an enduring Buck Knife design. OH

Great thread OH.
I enjoyed your stories, and it has even revived my interest in my own 118.
A well used phenolic Buck is in many ways more special than a Limited Edition that sits in a box.
Thanks for reminding me of that.

Thank you, I'm glad this thread has been enjoyed and has contributed a little bit to all the great Buck lore on this sub-forum. OH

Wildcat, That’s a fat Striper you have there! I’ll need to give filleting with a Buck 118 a try sometime; usually grab a Buck 121 for fish, but the 118 is as sharp and sharp is what really matters with cleaning fish. OH

Ok what’s the difference between the 118 and 105? Need s side by side as the look the same in my limited mind

Found one more Buck 118 (in my FW fishing bag that stays in the car). Bought this four spacer, three-line, tip-up as a project; the 440C blade had been etched with the name of a former owner and then etched again when someone “erased” the previous owners name. I spun some Dremel abrasive pads at a moderate speed which cleaned the blade up pretty well - not invisible by any means but certainly not the eyesore it was before. OH
