The Deer Hunter - Buck 118 Personal (permanent thread - keep adding)

Can you determine approx. date of manufacture from this info? If not, thanks anyway.
In late '67 Buck added USA. Tang stamp read BUCK over USA and was inverted, read tip down
In late '71-'72 Buck added the model number and was inverted for a short time. Sometime in 1972 or 1973 the orientation changed to read tip up.
1986 Buck added date symbols.

I recently inherited this from my father's collection. I have a 118 that I bought around 1978-1979, I need to get pictures of it.

Excellent, very special knife. Thanks for posting it. Do you know when it was made or when he got it?

Bought several on ebay years ago, but I don't know enough to identify year, steel, etc. Any help would be appreciated. I know what No. 6 is - it's a D2 model I bought new. I've been using No. 1 and 6; the rest appear to have a factory edge. Thanks!

btw, the carving knife on top is a vintage Buck, probably a one-off. Authenticity confirmed by Joe Houser at Buck Knives.

Wow, that's awesome. And I thought mine was old. I'll see if I can figure out how to post a pic. Mine has the same Lucite handle and the blade is thinner. Its total weight is 2.85 oz.

O That is a nice old one also, do you have the hatchet also?
Yeah, it's a set. My guess is it was a custom order or a prototype cause I've never seen another quite like it. The hatchet weighs 17 ozs. It's .25" thick at the haft, .4" thick at the butt. 11.75 " Overall. I'm pretty sure the head is welded on. Western was making a lot of these hatchet/knife camp sets back then that we're popular with boy scouts and boys in general (I still have mine.) Perhaps Buck was trying to break into that market? The Western version has stacked leather scales. Maybe Buck was going for that same look?

My little town seems to deliver packages every Sunday and holidays. Even garbage pickup is usually done no mater if it’s a holiday.
