This is three views of a pile-side piece, not yet fully buffed. Hopefully there are more coming later!

I like the densely-random jigging!!

Which color are they calling this one? ..I'm guessing this is chestnut?

Charlie- i'm liking your new Avatar! Looking good!

Charlie a quick question Sir..... in your plans that you envisage when you are about the re-awaken such a great Traditional Pattern- such as the 48 in this case, do you actually sit down and discuss with Bill the actual detail of the jig work - for example how deep, the pattern of the actual jigging etc? OR do you leave certain elements with the man on that side of things and unleash him at a point in your creations trusting in how much you know Bill and his genius when he is at work?

Great question. I'm definitely curious.

OK, Charlie, inquiring minds want to know... lol.

nice!

It reminds me a lot of the old Schrade jigging on the preferred series. Like this one

Well, there is no such thing as directing or unleashing Bill. He directs everything he does. The best I can do, is ask/suggest what I'd like to see, and send him pictures if possible.
He would like nothing more than to nearly reproduce some of the classic historical jigging that we see in our beloved old cutlery, but that is easier said than done. I am happy to see his re-interpretations of Peachseed, and Rodgers bone.
Frankly I prefer them to be slightly different; paying tribute but not duplicating.

I think the two colors I have asked for may be closer in appearance than I had hoped. Sue tells me both will be darker, with slight difference in tone. Beautiful and slightly distinct I like to think!;)

When ordering an SFO, there is definitely an element of surprise every time! It is fortunate that Bill likes good-looking knives as much as we do, and runs a competent ship!

Thanks for the great info, Charlie. I think both your appreciation for the classic design/looks and the modern reinterpretations are spot on. I like to think that Bill Howard (and you as well) is paying homage to classic american pocketknives but doing so in a way that makes GECs modern offerings unique, collectible, and timeless in their own right. Bravo, and thanks for the insight.

Looking good Charlie: Thanks for the little peek inside the SFO process with Bill. Very interesting.

Trouble here too with photobucket. Some folders work and some don't. Can't believe I pay for this lousy service.

I have to keep bouncing back and forth between Photobucket and Imgur, depending on which one decides to work on any given day. Arrgghhh!

According to GECs front page, they are moving on to the Improved Trappers! Does that mean the Diamond Jacks are done and shipping today??!!!??

I'm far from an expert, but my guess is that they'll be after the improved trappers. Charlie said they'd be last (in this thread somewhere I think) which I thought could mean last of single blades, but now I'm assuming last of the entire 48 run.

Purely speculation though.

From what Charlie said a few posts back they were already working on them. Maybe they meant last in production of the single blade design... which would make sense since they were already working on the Weasels. I'm just excited so I'm being impatiently optimistic. Haha.

Nice! and thank you for such a detailed answer- I am one who sits down and tries to picture you sitting down with Bill and discussing these things, and thats the good thing about having such a good relationship with Bill- where you can trust him because you know him and know of his work so well- to let him do what he does so well.

I also think that putting yours and Bill's touch on these knives is extremely important!
Many thanks Charlie.

Looking forward to this release!! Should be a fine addition to the #48 linage.

Here are a couple of ancestors to the Diamond Jack...
