The fall snark thread

Silverware is not really practical in the woods though. The smoke from the campfire tarnishes it very badly.

6 years cooking classes, as well as catering classes. You learn about a lot of useless shit. Like how many frickin' forks go on the table. That is the base "full" setting. It can get a lot more complicated. When you get into the glasses. Aperitif and digestif glasses wine glasses, port glasses, brandy glasses, and into the spoons for palate cleanser courses...

Yesterday, my mother asked me if she should get some red wine glasses. I told her "No, the clear ones worked just fine."

She and my sister still continue to ask me questions like that, expecting a straight answer. :D There's a reason my niece once said "Uncle Wayne, your humor makes a pretzle look straight." My response? "Thanks."

The main etiquette that my family follows at family meals is to hold hands while we say the blessing.. and that is mainly to make sure no one gets a head start while all our eyes are closed :D

Why shouldn't she have some red wine glasses?

That is an awesome line your niece came up with!

Apparently "red wine" glasses are shaped differently than "white wine" glasses. My attitude has always been "As long as the solo cup has been rinsed out, who cares what the glass looks like?"

But then some people do prefer blue solo cups for formal occasions, rather than classic red ones.

Apparently "red wine" glasses are shaped differently than "white wine" glasses.

Red wine glasses are wider and shallower so that more of the wine comes in contact with the air. white wine glasses are taller and thinner. Champagne flutes are even taller and thinner. They also hold less than a regular wine glass.

Good thing I dont do wine or champagne, too many glasses

This looks like a beer/whiskey/scotch and Pepsi glass to me

Who'd'a thunk a bunch of Beckerheads would get to discussing place setting ettiquette? The sun is probably gonna rise in the west tomorrow. :D

I heard a rumor that the theme for the next Gathering is "glamping". Complete with full table settings, a violinist and silk coverlets for everyone's sleeping bags. No more passing the jug around... proper stemware will be provided. Black tie is optional, but strongly recommended. I for one am quite pleased by this sophisticated turn of events.

We do need some more Beckerhead gear.....

At least some beer mugs or something, maybe even bacon containers like this with a beckerhead logo on it......

I like that stemware. Does it come in a bigger size?

Black tie? I dont own a tie.

Id be happy if i never have to own a tie again.

Bolo ties are the only way to go.
Official tie of Texas (and Arizona, I think).
Formal - top button buttoned, tie to-blocked up
Semi-formal - open top button, lower the bolo a smidge
Business casual - lower the bolo some more

And the most important reason - I have NEVER ruined a bolo tie with BBQ sauce or spaghetti sauce. Easily cleaned. Not like those stupid ties that need to be tied "properly" and get ruined when one little spot gets on them.
