The feathered Tyrannosaurus

There is pretty sound fossil evidence that feathers or feather-like scales appeared in mammal-like reptiles during the late Permian, millions of years before true mammals and dinosaurs appeared.

First came the (amniote) egg, it made the reptiles independent of the water. Then came feathers and a couple of hundred million years later came the chicken. I guess that settles that old question.

Probably only the smaller dinos had feathers or feather-like structures. The larger (like Tyrranosaurids and Sauropoda) dinos had a body mass large enough to retain heat. This is called isothermal homeomorphy and also showed up in the Pleistocene Megafauna, which only died out a few thousand years ago with the retreat of continental glaciation and migration of the Indians from Siberia.

Remember, Foxhole, all the years that have gone by. Our last common ancestor with the mouse was for instance about 80 million years ago. Despite their similarity, mammals do have such a degree of separation.

So do the reptiles. A Golden Eagle is far closer a relation to Tyrannosauus than a lizard or a snake is to a tyrannosaur. A snake and a monitor lizard seem to be close relations, though the origin of snakes is controversial. Turtles are so far removed that they really resemble other reptiles more through appearance than a close relationship.

There was even a line of birds that seem to have evolved totally separately from other dinosaur stock than the birds we know, an example of these other birds being Hesperornis. These went out with the classic dinosaurs when the asteroid came down flop and crashed the party.

If I thought about it, I could do much better. But I don't think you're worth the effort.

It's courageous you admit it takes quite an effort for you to think...not everyone can admit he has cognitive difficulties...

Generally when newbie choads attempt to match cognitive abilities with Ed, they have brought a knife to a gunfight...

yeah, that's one strike. Proclaiming the supremacy of Lamarck and finding virtue in ignorance are two others....

Robert Bakker said that some dinosaurs lived in cold climates, not just cool but cold, and had fur. Of course, he looks like a nutcase, but his book was interesting. Whether true or not, it will take a long time for the established scientific community to accept this theory.

At close distance,a knife is more dangerous weapon than a gun. I think Fairbarn said that.

well, I never proclaimed supremacy of Lamarck because I don't really accept that hypothesis either...and don't you know, ignorance is a bliss :D

If your speaking of the 21 foot rule yes the knife can be more deadly than a gun in the right hands. In this case you don't have the right hands judging by your previous ignorant remarks.

And who are you to say whether I have the right hands? On what possible basis could you judge my fighting capabilities? Do you know me perhaps? Have you seen me maybe? But then again, judging by your stupid ignorant condescending assumption you don't exactly give an impression of a intelligent type. Oh and you can believe me, I have the right hands...even too much so

Couldn't we settle the argument right here? Ofcourse the moderator will have to close his eyes  .

There's no argument. YOU are out of line. Straighten up and fly right or find some greener land to wander around in.
