The final Snarkdown!

Yeah, what they showed on TV was like a little RC helicopter, kinda. It lands and releases the package (no more than 5# and about a cubic foot), then flies back off. Can't wait to see one take out a powerline or cut off some dog or little kid's leg with the rotors. Not to mention FAA air-traffic stuff and the cost of flying an individual package to your house, and flying the empty "drone" back.

Frankly, I think it's 100% pure bullsh... I mean, advertising hype. Remember back in the 70's when they promised we'd all have flying hovercars by the year 2000?

Right, I think you also had to be within 10 miles of a distribution center as well. Just doesn't seem practical to me, given that the extra cost must be huge.

The Amazon founder seemed pretty adamant that they'd have it in 3-5 years or so. But like you said, it's good press either way.

Yah I understand all the crazy implications when it comes to drones dropping packages off. Even Bill Gates thought it was kind of a far fetched idea. The logistics alone of completing such a task on a grand scale would be immense, let alone all of the negative consequences that could arise. Needless to say it is a neat idea but in practice there are so many fundamental flaws as mentioned here. Plus just using the term "drone" in a friendly connotation is in itself a difficult issue to overcome. Both of my parents are mail carriers aside from my father being a preacher, and the thought of something detracting work they could be doing is kind of a hard pill to swallow. However, I remember when e-mail first became popular and everyone said the post office would be dead within a matter of years, needless to say electronic communication has created its own set of problems but they are still here delivering mail. So one day we may see automated flights carrying packages and mail and that would be just a sign of the times.... However on the whole flying car thing.... ;)

meanwhile back in beckerworld.... I have been using the BK5 my wife got me as a present... and it is a really really efficient cutter. I knew it was going to be a good slicer, but it really is friendly to carve and cut with. I might venture to say that the overall geometry is a little better than the BK15, just maybe though, time will tell as I use both side to side. Anyways the BK5 has done very well at everything I have thrown at it. I typically take the BK9 out woods bumming with me on hikes and stuff because of its versatility, but the BK5 might replace it. Its lighter, so far it carves better, and it still has enough length to do what chopping/hacking I need it to do. Highly recommended.

Yup... This

Unmanned drone vs power lines.... Yeah, not gonna happen. What about all the turd burglars out there swiping packages from driveways, Or WorldWood wanting to chat the thing up, all pie eyed at 3 AM, till the batteries died...

Not convinced..

Been thinking about one a lot lately... I have been trying to love the 10 I got a while back from Moose's contest, it is a great knife, but the 15 just "speaks" to me... It tells me to slice and dice ;)

I like my 5, too. In the vid where Ethan and Jerry discuss it, they mention camping with a buddy or group, and say that one guy should have a 9 and one guy, a 5. That makes a lot of sense, as well

Every time I have tried a high alcohol content beer, it taste like crap.. I had a really good Michigan beer last weekend called Bean Picker.. if you like coffee flavor it is amazing.
Try Kona Brewing Company's Pipeline Porter for a smooth drinking coffee flavored beer. Brewed with 100% Kona beans. As for the flavor of alcohol in high alcohol beers, if it's done correctly, it should be balanced. Some of the Sam Adams Imperial series (the Wee Heavy and the Imperial Stout) are food bets, but you can also be assured of quite a lot of flavor as well. Not everyone likes it. Which is perfectly OK.

My 12 finally arrived today. YES! Of course, I just opened a case with e-prey this morning because I paid for it on Nov 24th, and it came shipped free....and free of any tracking information as well. Seller claimed it shipped on the 26th, and I couldn't figure out what carrier could possibly take that long to get a package from NJ to NH. USPS takes no more than 2 days. It was UPS ground...I sure hope he...was optimistic...about when the package actually went to UPS, because 6 business days is way too long to deliver a parcel....especially one containing my neused "Ritter MK II Perseverance/Becker BK12". Turns out the overall girth of the handle is not as thick as I expected; my first impression is that they are pretty comfy. Not nearly as beefy as my Camillus 2. I'll try to get pics up in a little bit.

If you ever wanna trade that thing for my 2 Beckers, you just let me know ;)

Glad it made it to you, no tracking kind of sucks, lol

Most definitely the 15 is one heck of a belt blade. Absolutely love mine, and its going to be a good companion for my new 5 too!

I think, when funds are sufficient, the 12 will be my next becker. That or the 10.

That vid is very cool and it gives a good back story to the blade. Yes though I agree having both available would be absolutely ideal, but I tend to go out alone and I am trying to keep myself from carrying stuff that I dont technically need. I am even looking into getting a satchel type bag instead of my regular backpack to help minimize everything down to just necessities. Still though recently I was able pull off a night time hike/hunt with my brother in law and must say it was really nice having two people share the burden.

OK, here are a couple of teasers:
,

Fits better in my hand than I thought it would (no...I'm not a lefty), balance feels good with the weights in (I think they're in, haven't checked yet) although not weight forward as I am used to. Really looking forward to playing with this.

Thanks for the pics, I definitely want to make this my next becker. How is the sheath? How does it compare to the KABAR becker sheaths?

Thanks,
The Kid
