I nominate degustation for WOTD. Mostly because it sounds gross but actually means something quite nice, and that amuses me.

I had to look it up myself..

degustation - tasting: taking a small amount into the mouth to test its quality

It would work well in the meatloaf conversation too ;)

To switch gears a bit, how bout some Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart with your coffee. You're welcome Terrio.

Good grief, how good can it be?!? Does it pour itself into your face, give you a shoulder rub and drive you home afterwards, or what? I barely pay $10/bottle for bourbon, for Pete's sake :D

Well, it's the premium of premium beers. At 10%+ and with the tasteful palet it sure ain't no Heineken. You pay more for a 15yo Talisker single malt compared to a JD blended whiskey too, don't ya? It's not a kind off 'I will just chug the cans of beer down the hatch'- type of beer but more of a degustation beer that you drink for the taste, the enjoyment, the craftsmanship. Not to get drunk asap:). But for that purpose, it will work rather quickly as well :-)

I'm with JT...not a Bourbon drinker, but not willing to spend $10 per bottle to get my "degust" on. I do just fine "degusting" my Shiner Bock, Sam Adams or some other semi-respectable beer. If I feel like being special, I'll pick up a good hefeweizen and have it with a slice of lemon. It's like drinking a loaf of good, crusty bread!! Burp.....

I'm siding with G-shark. Some things are just special, once in a blue moon sorts of things...We have a brewpub here in town that has won "best beer in the world" for one of their brews. I'd pay $10 bucks for a glass of that. Or put it another way...how much does it cost to have lunch at your favorite diner? Is it world-class? Hell, you could spend almost that much just having a meal at Taco Bell. Value is in the....taste buds of the person drinking/eating/smoking. I have purchased one or two bottles of beer that were closer to $15....Sam Adams Infinium comes to mind. Granted, it's a pretty big bottle.....I just thought of another example having to do with custom knives....but I think you know where I'm going with that one....;)

The Chimay Blue is pretty good stuff. I have it a couple times a year as a treat.

I stand corrected! I must need another cup of coffee. It didn't dawn on me when G-shark said "domestic beer" that he was in Belgium... In that case, I would gladly pay that amount for a Belgian or German award winning beer. Speaking of "Blue Moon", they do make a passable Belgian witbier.

Between the food pictures on the Turkey cutting thread, and the beer discussion here, I'm getting hungry and thirsty...

Well, 10$ is cheap for that beer. Called back to ask if they had some left (they had 48 bottles to start with), but everything was gone after half an hour, they said. They would be gone if they asked 20$. They would even have been gone if they had asked $30. They sell for a lot more on the web, and then you still have to pay for shipping. Don't want to sound elitist or anything, but "beer" isn't "beer". Whiskey isn't whiskey. Jack Daniels isn't 10yo Talisker. A Spanish Cava is not a Veuve Cliqcuot. A Stella or Heineken is not a Westvleteren 12. You gotta have 'em to taste the difference though. I sure as hell enjoy myself a good lager like Stella, it's probably the beer I've been drinking the most since I was allowed to. But it's like with everything: you get what you pay for. Sometimes you just want something different, something réally good. You pay for the taste, the craftsmanship, the exclusivity, the brand, the awards it has won (with reason),... Anyway, not going to get in an argument about it, just wanted to share my thoughts on it, and my opinion is: it's worth it. Even though I prefer other (cheaper) trappist beers such as Rochefort 10 even more :)
