The Flea Market Mung Absolution Thread

Oh yeah, it's getting ridiculous! A Leuku, Camp knife, Recluse and all that shade tree available is unbelievable!

Fortunately or unfortunately, my collection is to the point where duplications of models at various thicknesses and other configurations is getting pretty large. I am getting pretty picky about what is moving me these days. But you all are correct, there are some pretty sweet knives on the flea market available.

I agree with your observation Tod. Six months ago almost everything on the Flea Market sold almost immediately. Now many nice things sit unsold for quite a while and go through one or more price markdown(s) before they sell. There are some there now that I would buy if they were not duplicates of nice ones I already have. I think that may be the story with many of the more established members. I think the ebb & flow of the flea market has a lot to do with the number of customers who are new to Fiddleback. The high number of non-value added posts in the Flea Market also detracts from visibility for the sellers.

Beyond the Flea Market, the whole vibe of the forum in general seems different to me than just a month or so ago. Maybe it is because Summer is over, I don't know. I just notice that there are a lot fewer threads with interesting knife content and/or reviews or compare & contrasts of models, etc. Bud's mid-week photo tours of the shop have been the only consistent content that I look forward to. Other than that, the Monday thru Thursday content has been a little lacking to me. I guess I need to get going on another review so that I am part of the solution rather than be a whiner. I just can't decide which model to do next.

Feeling the same Phil. Life gets crazy when kids go back to school. I'm actually hoping to get a couple hours tomorrow (today I guess) outside if the rain stays away and plan on pounding a knife through some wood.

You think the Ebola virus has people worried enough to stop buying Fiddlebacks?!

Thank god someone bought Sky's Sapphire ED Karda... That was calling my name

+1 this (on both accounts) things are different 'round here but change is good. I've personally been swamped and have not been keeping up with the forum as much lately on account of personal and work obligations. I guess its time for me to step up and do a review or two ;).

I've been away for a few days. Thanks for playing nice, and for keeping the mung here.

PS. I'm glad someone bought that EDK too. Were it a thinner steel, I think I'd have a very angry spouse right now. It was pretty tempting anyway.

I've been thinking about this "issue" ever since I saw some uncomfortable exchanges being made at the flea market.

I think if we all step back and look at things from the perspective of the other person (as corny as this may sound), we can certainly see some logic behind where they were coming from. One thing that I have been personally experiencing at work, and coming into a greater realization is that every person has his/her version of reality. Of course this isn't a news to any of us. As many people have already mentioned, one way we could overcome these differences is through open yet respectful conversations. And sometimes I think this can be difficult through a medium like this where online conversations by nature can be so misconstrued, and the pace and the ease that the medium provides often times hinder us from taking a step back and thinking before we speak. Starting to realize I'm perhaps digressing as usual, but I guess I'm saying let's get along my brothers (and sisters, seriously, is there one here?).

Lastly, Pastor Mike, being the cold hearted Presbyterian that I am, absolution through the Sacrament of Penance doesn't adhere with my theology ;) Seriously though, thanks for the thread, I think it was a healthy way for many to express their opinions.

I echo your thoughts about the challenges of the media and would add that I find electronic communication provides a false sense of intimacy for many. They think relationships are closer than another person might, and that can lead to hurt when someone strays outside how the other person would define the relationship. All of which means: give each other an extra measure of grace.

And don't worry. I'm convinced that God even loves "cold hearted Presbyterians." 😉

Trust me, as a Baptist, confession, penance, and absolution are words that do not foster well wishes or long tenures in my communities, either. But Jesus does say to his disciples that have the power to forgive one another. Absolution, to me, is someone speaking that assurance that God will indeed forgive. I realize that is a bit different than our more sacramental sisters and brothers, but I think that's ok as long as we all play well in God's sandbox.

Echo that... I wish I had the money to snag kirkwoods bushfinger

Such is life.....I fool with these things everyday but sometimes one calls your name

Nice score on that Bushfinger Will! I begged the wife, but I guess I used the wrong words.:D

LMAO..... I have really grown fond of that color combo, and tapered! I'm excited.

I am sure glad my wife has not realized all those burl knives are different sizes and different color woods. :)

I have to keep the spares hidden in a shoe box under the bed... just bring out a few at a time!

The only problem are Bishops and Competition Cutters, they don't like the shoe box!

Amen to that brother! ;)

When it comes to a new Fiddleback, gain her support with a new pair of shoes, boots, or jewelery. Then buy the Fiddleback.

(not sure why she has so many more shoes than I have Fiddlebacks)
