^--- Very interesting! Definitely different choils and talon holes too.
Is the rough coat B-7 actually 7" long? Looks like 6 3/4ths to me.

Thanks for all the eye candy Ragnerok, your basic pix are AWESOME!!!!!

Thats right - Talon holes and choils are different, too. As far as i remember, the smooth ones are Gen. ones, while the crinkel coated ones are Gen. two. Dont have the crinkel one right here, but lenght on the smooth one is actually 7 3/8".

I recently talked to one of the sheath makers who said that the M-INFI blades can vary up to 1/2" or so. Not just smooth vs crinkle, but many smooth ones can be different than other smooth ones.

I haven't had personal experience with this, but he seemed a knowledgeable fella.

Yep, the smooth B7's run a good 1/4" or longer than the crinkle B7's. The crinkle B7's I've measured have consistently been right at 7" from Res-C to point. Besides the difference in choil size, the smooth B7's--and the smooth B9's and B5's--also have thinner edges and are nominally better cutters than the crinkle, but the difference in use is not really significant IMO. The crinkles also may be a bit stronger in the edge, by virtue of being a tad thicker.

I've been comparing my B9's too (one krinkle one smooth). They seem to be the same length, but the krinkle coated one feels heftier. I'm curious if this is due to subtle machining changes between the two models or if it's that the krinkle coat is heavier. I'm kinda digging the extra heft. :)

Tom,

We're all here for the Basic 8. Even when discussion extends to the B8's Basic Brethren, it's keeping this thread active and helping our purpose.
