Maybe the blade should be broader, like the FSH? It's going to need to be slightly weight forward for better chopping.

If it was me I would prefer the blade to be ground full convex to add forward weight, rather than having a wider blade. I believe it would be perfectly suited to the 3/16" stock thickness Jerry mentioned, no need to make the blade wider than the widest point of the handle in my eyes. Having a smaller footprint is something I place a high priority on for anything less than large choppers that would ride in a pack mostly.

I need to stop playing with this and do some work. I just can't... :o

You're like the Richard Dreyfus character in Close Encounters of the Third Kind! LOL

Next you'll be sculpting B8's in your mashed potatoes.

LOL! If there's one scene in any movie that completely describes me as a person, it's this one. :D

"I guess you've noticed that there's something a little strange about dad. It's okay, though... I'm still dad.

This means something. It's important."

Garth wants to make the B-8 out of 3/16". . .

Is he medically insane????

I think he might be . . . . . B-8 that is!!!!

Does B-8 spell "bait" on a license plate????

Notice that it was Garth who mentions 3/16" stock, not really Jerry.

The SARSquatch was 3/16", full convex, 7" long, 1 3/4" wide. If you stretch it to 8", but narrow the blade to 1 1/4" broad, how will that feel? The handle of a Basic is certainly lighter than a normal full tang Busse, so maybe that makes up for it, balance wise.

I made another pitch for the .275" choiless HOG BAIT on another post and I think the justification and reasoning needs to be refreshed now that we're on post 430 and 20,395 views...

My reply..

"You guys beat me to it and it sounds like Garth wants to bring out a sucked up, scrawny and downright thin Basic 8 that would be pretty lightweight for all your tasks. A full height grind .275" thick blade would be perfect for everything you are asking the knife to do, heavy enough to chop, light enough to carry all day and very likely "Noss" Proof (The basic 10 is .25" thick and is light as a feather...a .275" blade 2" shorter would feel very close to the way the B10 feels). The problem is it might be another 3.5-4.5 more years before the B8 is released";)

PLEASE PLEEEEEEASE BRING IT BUSSE TEAM!!!

Hopefully we each get our perfect versions. I have no doubt that this model could take off and be present in ganzaa's from here until eternity. I believe it will be that sought after (like the Camp Tramp in its day).

That said, it won't take much to make me happy. I'll be happy with most any. I'd be thrilled to get an 8" version of the B10. :D

In regards to the SARsquatch, the tang weighs much more than the Basic style tang. This definitely does cancel out the forward weight of the convex grind on the squatch', as the tang is quite wide, full stock thickness and features thicker handle slabs. All of which serve as a counterbalance to the weight of the 7" blade.

The new Swamp Rat Taliwhackers are half height saber ground at 3/16" with a blade height no more than that of the handle which tapers aggressively towards the tip, these balance just past the handle at the beginning of the blade so you still have a bit of forward weight.

Add an extra inch of blade to that with a full convex grind and you will end up with a weight forward balance that should chop respectably for it's weight while being versatile/durable/lightweight......

No choil would just be the icing on the cake, if something along these lines was made I would likely sell my Desert Storm Fighter, Taliwhackers and possibly Boss Jack as it would have the finest attributes of each all blended together...... This all just my opinion of course so as always, YMMV..... :)

Agree. The SarsQ has a lot going for it, but the neutral balance and large handle give it a bit of a clunky feel to me as a chopper. The B7 has better chopping balance and only weighs about 12.5 oz @ 1/4" thickness. Add an inch of length for a B8, and you're still well below the carry weight of a Skinny ASH1 with much better chopping balance than either the SarsQ or the Skinny.

Oh, and as long as we're asking, an asym grind would be nice. :)

Assym. Grind, 1/4" thickness (maybe 3/16" would be perfect) and the choise between tan/blk. Res-C. Choil and no choil.

I think we're getting somewhere. Just add magnum and skinny blade thickness choices, and maybe an elf choil option, and we're there.
