TTD, I don't think the OD Midlength have come out yet and I know you said you already had the carbine length furniture I think, but I'd definitely look at a midlength upper. Gives you more real estate on the handguard, longer/more reliable gas system and it's a little more comfortable for me. I have both, prefer midlength, but it's a personal preference thing.

I am looking to build my AR to be similar to the Colt 6520 ,nothing fancy & I dont care to hang alot of do-dads off of it either

I saw the midlength for sale somewhere Adam, I know you'vve been looking for them. Sorry, can't remember where but they are out.

Only black MOE hand guards have been released so far. Magpul usually releases items in black first to meet most of the demand and then releases colors later. FDE will probably be next, then OD.

The 6520 is a great rifle. Here is my 6520 build:

I swapped the upper for a flat top and added a DD Lite 9.5FSP Rail. You don't have to hang a lot of do-dads but there are certain things that all my rifles get - Aimpoint (or ACOG), white light, and sling). Those are the non-negotiables. Those make a carbine more useful, functional, safe, and effective.

I should also add that if you are after a lightweight profile barrel, that several manufacturers make light weight midlength uppers now (BCM, Daniel Defense, and little birdie tells me that Spikes will be selling them at VERY attractive prices soon). If I was starting the above build from scratch today, I would go with a middy upper.

Oh don't worry about me Shotty, I went and picked them up at Midway the day they became available. :D Love my black midlengths. They mounted rock solid, are comfortable, look good (MUCH better than they do in pictures most of the time) and at around $35 are very affordable. I dig 'em.

The IWC guys carry the Magpul MOE handguards. Last time I heard, they had some MOE middies in stock. Mid length MOE has only been released in black so far.

I'm still looking for the right railed forend. The MOE carbine length is working just fine for now.

You are looking for an extended railed hand guard right? If so, it is pretty tough to beat the prices, quality, and light weight of the Troy TRX Extreme rails. They are the lightest on the market that I know of and their smaller outside diameter really makes them lay in the hand well. Plus, there are plenty of accessories available for them between Troy and IWC.

Once IWC brings out their light mounts, there will be no reason to mount a rail on an MOE handguard. They are bring out mounts shortly for most popular lights.

Sweet! Cant wait to see those!!

Adaman.. I'm looking at grabbing one of those offset Vltor light mounts for my rig. How do you like it? Does it hold the light in place solidly after a few hundred rounds? (I had that problem with my current Vltor mount)

I never said midlength stuff ,I have the OD green magpul items all fit carbine M4 style.... I ordered a few misc.items from spike's tactical today and looking at their complete uppers pretty hard ... they are really nice

I’m not running an offset mount. I’ve got the Magpul short rail section on my MOE handguard at the 2:00 position with a Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light on it. For most applications, I prefer a compact light like the TLR-1/Surefire X300 over a tube style light. I can activate the light by coming over the top of the handguard with my thumb, momentary or flipping it constant on.

Depends on the model of light but for my use, the throw and focus of most quality weapon lights works well for me while providing less bulk than a tube style light. To each their own. I’m never set on one system, it’s a constant evolution of finding the best setup for my application and my most likely scenario for having to use that system.

Matt, what's your favorite BUIS?
