The Just Hanging Out Thread.

I thought the exact same thing as I had the Wilson Combat large and smalls for a spell. The Inkosi Insingo handle seems to be thicker than the 21 and more hand filling which is what has instantly sold me aside from the Insingo blade shape which has more belly than the 21 Insingo. The thicker handle makes it kinda a fun chunky tiny edc.ita definitely going into my regular rotation now. I generally edc mondau to Friday similar smaller blades, less than 3 ounces, flat scales, under 3" blade. Except for the metamorph which I'm going to proselytize is a folding bird and trout + super slicey blade.

I'm like the exact opposite of bikerector lol, I love a good half stop. The Spyderco Urban became a favorite for me bc of that over the ukpk. The urban is part of my regular rotation as well.

I may have to pick one up one day just to feel it. The Inkosi has a bit more robust feel than the 21 to me so it’d be cool to feel a small stout knife. As far as the 21 being too small, it’s almost too small for work use for me. If it’s just a situation to throw a knife in my pocket to have one it’s a-ok. Big fan of the Wilson combat versions as well. Adds a nice feel and grip. I have no explanation or reasoning for this but for some reason I prefer the feel of a plain handle 21, and the inlay Inkosi

Spyderco UKPK by far is the slip joint I use the most. Not the prettiest but it’s one hand opening, also able to close it one handed and the finger choil insures you will not close it on your finger.

Great knife too! I like this a lot more than the delica. It's all in that front choil for me, and why I also love the spyderco native 5.

Since the thread has settled down now, and isn’t all drama...

Hey everybody, I’m curious about how many of us are using the knives that we received from the pay it forward thread.

For example, I received a Swiss Army knife clone that I reach for almost every single day. Surprising really. Here I have knives worth $80 to $120 and I am reaching for a clone knife worth just a few bucks.

I also received a Benchmade 550 that I have big plans for once the Jeep is fixed and holidays are over.

Hmmmm let’s see....
If I remember correctly, you sent me the Crkt Stiff KISS, which I just used today. It’s really become quite a little workhorse around the house for miscellaneous projects. I’m never afraid to lean into it a little if needed.

The Steel Will Modus and Kizer Sunburst have made it into daily rotation. The Invicta Grand Diver gets decent wrist time. And the Brous Silent Soldier has also become a bit of an EDC fixed blade.

When I had the WC's I was at suit and tie jobs inside of an i-bank so I ended up rotating my whole collection towards traditionals. Now that I'm at a small consulting agency I'm back on the horse with moderns and really enjoying it!

I’ve got a 21 WC insingo and a large Inkosi DP WC. Love them both. I’m an electrician so I get the luck and pleasure of having a career that I get to use my knives daily and often. I’ll actually be working in a bank tomorrow. I’ll be in the mechanical room running conduit tho :D Traditionals are something I never got
In to. Closest I am to that would be my old Bucks. Got a buddy that’s big in to Case knives. The impinda has been calling my name lately tho

Begs the question do you have a Caly 3.5 or the 3?

I do not have either actually, could never find one at a price I was willing to pay for. The 3" blade length makes it convenient for EDC since several Detroit burbs have 3" length limits, and I think the caly 3 disco'ed before I discovered the UKPK. I do want to try a stretch, just for grins, but 3.5" folders are kind of a weird middle ground for me as I seem to gravitate towards 3" for EDC and 4" for utility or kitchen use around the house. I seem to have an odd mix of 3" or under fixed blades and 4" folders lately. A nice designed knife will get me away from those extremes though. I guess more interestingly, I really like a 3.5" fixed blade, feel 4" fixed blades might as well be folders, and back to loving fixed blades in the 4.5" to 5.5" (or larger for non-slicing tasks).

It's kind of an odd self-realization, but I think a lot is based around pocketability, 3" folder and 3.5" and smaller fixed blades (4" seem to need to be on a belt where I can still pocket many 3.5") and then 4" is a nice blade size I can pocket as a folder. Then, if a fixed blade has to go on a belt, might as well get into something larger.

For traditional slipjoints, I like the 72 GEC lockback (w Cougar Claw) the most. I only have three traditional left at this point, all GEC. They’re great but I don’t like how they swim around in my pockets.

Modern folders the Stretch used to be my favorite but now that the ergos are different enough on the Stretch2 I think Im probably going to sell off the one ZDP user I have left.

The Bugout has beat out everything else.

Nice is it me or is the one with the inlays a little bit smaller .
They are pretty well the same size. Large Inkosi with inlays and plain large 21. The 21 may be a shade taller. Never paid a whole lot of attention honestly.

I scrolled through some of the PIF thread for shitz n giggles over the weekend. I'm really surprised how long it stayed alive and well in the grand scheme of things with some of the shenanigans that happened. E.g. Raul Duke took a ZT 566 and put back a beat to hell serrated tenacious. From transactions like that you could see organically that a list was suggested and also a request that the PIF was ok happening. Cereal killer went awol after claiming stuff. That was just some of the oddball transactions.

In thinking about structure and trying to learn from mistakes, we will probably need a rules sticky and whoever participates on the thread has to read the sticky and acknowledge they understand what the thread is about and how to participate. This way no one is confused.

Not sure what can be posted publicly since it would link to a different forum, but one of participants from the PIF thread is working on starting a forum specific to the sentiments of the PIF thread. In that construct, rules would be much easier to enforce and accountability would be considerably easier as there should be a clearer authority to address things when they go askew. He wasn't aware of this thread but I dropped him a link in our PM's.
