The keep the "design thread" uncluttered thread

Doubt anyone cares, but i used Solidworks. And pencil does work fine...for those fortunate that can draw:)

I've never understood the need for sweeping curved blades. I figure the 'design a knife' thread serves two purposes. It lets RAT see what board membert think, and secondly, hopefully, it produces something that could be a really marketable design. Fantasy knives just don't fall into the latter catagory. So while some of the ideas do look 'unusual', presumably in an attempt to try and be different, most of what I've seen can be discarded at first glance.

One of the more useful (although I have never used one myself) recurring themes is the divet in the scaled for use as a firebow bearing, and if this were made wide enough, it could also take a button compass with a little termoplastic glue. I have the same on the scaled of my Atax, but I've never really felt the need to to learn to play the bow.

I completely understand what you are saying.
But in my view the theme of the thread was design a knife not change design a bit. At least that was the way i understood it. And i think that is why most posters tried to be original, in one way or another. And my personal opinion is that there are few very nice designs. Not all, but few i like and they could be IMO functional and new, not just small changes to the original RAT's. And they are drawings...they are easily changed...if the idea is good. Hope i wasn't rude. Not indented if it came out that way, because again, i completely understand what you are saying and in most parts agree(i presume your critic applyes to my designs too). I dont take all this too seriously. Its all in good fun really.

What Tomso said.. Its all good fun and a way to flex your creative muscles a bit (that sounded rude.) That being said, at least a couple of my designs were meant to be taken serious.

monsterdog, i take your designs serious...and like them. You did good, at least IMO.

Back atcha, plus you did the best graphical work in the entire thread. Gives a very good sense of what the knife looks like and how it would perform. I get the sense you do something like that for a living?

I have to admit my smatchet was not a totally serious entry, I just wanted to draw a RAT'ish one :p More power to people if they can find a use for it beyond weaponry.

I would prefer that the winner would be a universally useful blade for outdoors adventures, hunting and fishing.

I think the sculping of the Micarta slabs is something RAT need to explore. I presume this has a major effect on cost, otherwise everyone wouldn't just slap on plain slabs. Anyone ever held the Neil Roberts Warrior Knife?

Thank for the kind words, monsterdog.
I dont do this for a living. As strange as it might sound, i'm not a computer person.

I do have to admit that i'm quite curious who the winner will be. I find it a bit nerv recking waiting for the answer. I said before its all in good fun because i dont expect to win, but someone will. Well, i wish everybody all the luck!

I finally found this thread buried on page 12!!!! Maybe if it was easier to access (like a sticky?????) we'd have less clutter on the design thread from people who haven't read the rules...

Anyway, Razorback1595's design is a beauty - I'd buy one in a heartbeat...
well done!

Me too :D

but that said :p I really like some of Tomso's designs, and some i hate but that's just me

Hi guys-

I really don't feel like reading through 8 pages of this thread, so I don't know for certain if the design ordeal is still happening, but I added a really simple design at the end of the sticky'd design thread up top. I think it'd be a really natural one for RC to make.

Was just looking through the design thread. Is anyone else really digging spookypistolero's design? The perfect RC6 handle with the RC4 blade with the RC3 thickness.

My only addition would be to suggest it have the RC6 blade height rather than the RC4s. A taller blade with 1/8" stock would make the edge geometry a little more acute for an even better slicer.

I'd buy it.

Yea, i think its great. But I really like razorback1595's and monsterdog's designs. Those are my favorites. And that fenderacoustic's hatchet concept is very nice too.

Nice design, I put up one similar but with the same blade width as the RC-6's. I think it'd be popular and might give the RC-4 a run for it's money.
