The keep the "design thread" uncluttered thread

Trace is truly a FIRST CLASS individual and maker. I'm proud to call him a good friend!

The feeling is more than mutual my friend.. Wish I was hangin with you guys at Blade if your there;).. SHOT is just around the corner though.. Its been WAY too long my brother..:o

I am always a fan of wharcliff blades, i just find that more often than not i need a spear tip for piercing task. Especially if i need it to survive on, which is a lot of who Rat is i think.

I personally have never had a problem with any liner lock knife but just thinking of durability here. A liner lock wouldn't hold the same amount of pressure and a lock back wouldn't work for flipper aspect. Not to mention that whatever they choose, it would have to be able to take the mud/water/whatever that it needs to and then be easy to clean out.

A folder without a back spacer and a frame lock would be pretty easy to clean IMO.

Agreed. I'd be tickled (tactical) pink if they could put a lock on it that would wear in rather than out, though. I know it takes a long time for that to happen, but I plan on it being with me 'til the day I die. ;)

JNeiporte's golok (rambo-type) is very similar to the british military golok design. I love it!

1/4 inch is a bit thick in my opinion for such a blade for my taste, (extra weight could overkill for an already efficient chopper design, but profile is peeeeeeeeeerrrrrfect. I'd like to see it in something close to the .188 thickness, but MAN! thanks for the effort in putting that model together.

In the pictures, the blade looks to be a little shorther than the 11+ inches in the spec, is that true, or is it the photo playing tricks on my eyes?

looks great in-hand, not unweildy like some machete styles can be.

If RAT won't make it, I'm stealing that picture and sending it to a maker and have them make me one:D

The knife in the photo (made out of cardboard) is exactly to the specifications posted. Maybe 1/4" is a little thick, I was thinking that myself after using a prorotype. If you have a maker make one for you, let me know who the maker is and how much they charged you; maybe I can get something worked out if RAT doesn't pick up the design.

Monsterdog, I like the blade profile of your stubby wharnie, very similar to the Myerchin B001 that I bought recently.

Your handle shape seems less than ideal to me, I prefer a 'swell' in the middle of the handle. I really want to buy a quality Wharnie in 1095, the only option I can see at the moment is from Tops (Commanche Hawke), but it's not exactly what I'm after.

I completely agree with Petros! I love the blade shape, and if you made a "negative" of the handle, it would be awesome!

I wanted to bump this one back up. There are some really nice designs in the thread. In the original post it said the thread would be up a couple months. I was just wondering when you guys were gonna take the final look and choose the finalists.

By the way, I think a RAT Monster Nessie would be pretty cool!

I really can't wait to see who wins this :D
I'm not really into that RCX or the warnie, but thats personal preference :)
Hope mine makes it but there are a lot of coowl designs out there

I thought about that myself, and guess I kind of misnamed the bladeshape, its more of a sheepsfoot with belly I guess. I'll try and crank out a design based on the critiques above. I have another design in mind too, but its not done yet, and it has a very different blade shape, but a more RAT-like handle.

There are some amazing designs in the design thread. I'm very interested in a bunch of them as far as presentation goes.

What programs are ya'll using!

What do you guys think of clip points?

I'm new to knife designing and would love some feedback...

:D Ancient Chinese secret, but I will tell you anyways. I used a pen, paper, and colored pencils.

I think the R.A.T guys have gotten some pretty good new designs maybe from everyone. The designs are so great! Just one to reach into the screen and take it!
