The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

Which I find strange... It's not like s45vn is a slouch so far as a blade steel is concerned. Sure it takes a bit more effort to coax a fine edge out of than the magnacut (at least in my experience) but it's not that difficult to deal with.
It's the added toughness of the MagnaCut which increases the allure.

Add to that strength and a super-fine grain structure that lends itself to a keen edge. I'm getting edges that remind me much more of tool steel than s35vn/s45vn. It's all anecdotal, I know. Well, the grain structure is a thing, but my perception of sharpness is hard to quantify.

That's what Larrin was going for. Something akin to the Cru-Wear / M4 range of the spectrum. As a fan of each, I was incapable of resistance.

I kinda figured that had more than a bit to do with it.

I've only had one incident with my small that a bit of added toughness might have helped out, I was cutting a bunch of landscape fabric out of the cutter head shaft on the stump grinder and dinged the edge. Honestly though, I think that had more to do with the edge at the time being factory on a brand new knife and a bit burnt more than any lack of toughness.

I certainly understand wanting the latest iteration of a model too. No doubt about it, MagnaCut is great stuff. I should get the large out to stretch it's legs a bit more, but I'm afraid I'd miss doing something amazing with the small, and then I'd feel bad.

Edit for spelling

So just to clarify you’re saying magnacut is easier to sharpen? I’m very happy with edge retention and ease of sharpening on Damascus and s35 I haven’t played with s30, s45, or magnacut yet

And how do you only have ten? Kettleman Kettleman

Every time I log in you're using one to release a new one from it's packaging, then posting seller pics of Chris Reeve's autograph from 1994. And where are all nine of your 21s?
I pass them on ( at a loss normally) to the faithful CRK groupies here! I find it easier to enable and create Chris Reeve Fans if I have the knives to offer!

At this moment my collection consists of

P Sebenza
Original Sebenza
Regular Sebenza
[insert Classic MM here]
Pre Idaho Sebenza 21
PJ 21 Insingo
Sebenza 25
Sebenza 31 Damascus
Wilson Combat Inkosi
OP Umnumzaan

I also have a Small P that Im going to try and turn into the only knife I am missing, The very scarce PJ Classic MM

It seems to be at least in my limited experience. Not by an extraordinary level by any means, but it definitely seems to respond a bit more readily to the strop.

It's especially impressive given that you've put that collection together recently. Well done!
