all this is mostly old news, esp for the current lineups, KaBar is mostly using plastic sheaths now, no more glass stuff. KaBar is probably one of the few companies that has managed to design, redesign, refine, and then completely redesign things that don't work. the BK2 in particular is multi-generations along now in both knife and sheath - they sell so well, and sell OUT that it's easy for KaBar to introduce change. largely for the cusotmer's benefit.
sure, some of that is floating out there, esp as second hand blades. KaBar has no obligation to support old sheaths (imho), and realistically most companies don't provide lifetime full coverage warranties on old blades, but they often step up. sheaths? by the time you pay postages/etc, you can get a nice new sheath.
speaking of, i'll see the original referred to video as a commercial for the guy's own sheaths. of course he has to put a part of a product down, to show why his product is better? basic marketing. based on information/facts from nearly a year ago.
remember the old adage: nobody can make a sheath, esp for pennies, that will satisfies all customers. most? sure. all? not going to happen. some customers only want leather. some only want injection molded. some other? they want tactical molle sheaths. or something else entirely. the single digit dollars those factory sheaths probably end up costing are just to store your knife and protect you. if they come up with a REALLY GOOD ONE, rejoice. otherwise, as is said before: there are many more expensive knives that come with no sheath, at all, and those sheaths cost MORE than entire Becker setups.
this issue will probably never die. someone, somewhere is going to hate something, and be loud about it on the internet. they seem to feel they have a lot coming to them for their massive investment. i'm just going to have to suggest they get some depth, and breadth of experience, and realize they should be focusing on the knife...
seriously, who buys a knife because of the sheath? (other than the sheath makers who study and mock :>) Bueller? even Ethan, for the most part, buys knives he's interested in. sheaths? don't like it? toss it. because it was basically free, a container to get the knife home safely.
that's about that for me
