This thread is partly in response to Pitdogs of today. Just to sir up a little size envy and because after handling a battle mistress today I became intrigued.

Is that a sword pitdog?

CS trailmaster and Browning - Crowell competition knife - I should have thought of them.

Also missed - Fehrman - Final Judgement!

Swamp Rat Battle Rat with the excellent Resiprene-C handle. Unfortunately these are no longer made, so it won't make the list. I still see them for sale once in awhile, but for a lot more than they were originally.

OK... not meaning to hijack, but this is the second thread that I've read that mentioned Ranger knives possibly not being available. Is Justin out of the business or what?

No, quite to the contrary - Ontario Knife Company has acquired Ranger Knives, and they're bringing out an OKC Ranger Knives product line.

I think if I really wanted a big phat knife dedicated for chopping I'd be looking to Brian Goode or Bill Siegle . Because stain resistance wouldn't be a factor I'd be looking to really promote that into an advantage. One of the things I think people like about wood and carbon steels, arguably often at the cost of performance, is that the wear patterns make them unique. Usually, I don't feel the need to have that sew ya name tag inside kinda feature, but I think it can be fun. For me, the optimal time to exploit that would be on big dedicated carbon choppers. And to do it best I think I'd have to be considering a custom job. I'm going to gloss over the fact that I wont pay custom maker prices for something that has been on a conveyor belt.

Thanks crossada - this is exactly why I started this thread - hoping to discover new knives in this category that I didn't know existed. That armageddon is a BAD-ASS beauty!

for a custom maker how about tai goo ? his big choppers are awesome looking, and he has some really cool design features that would be nice to afford.
