The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Ahh ok, you've only got about 3 years to go.

Also, I used my 0770 to cut up some toy boxes earlier. Thin blade just glides through cardboard.

Hahahaaaaa, tell me about it. No big deal though, should be able to touch one cheek and shave hair off the other cheek when its done, lol! That Sith edge. Nice bro, glad you're enjoying the 0770. You pushed me over the edge for the Insingo. Chick thats getting my small micarta is so stoked, it makes me happy. Now I gotta choose a size and micarta/plain Jane. Come on boss man, whats good? Whatchu think?

Micarta all the way! Although my opinion is purely based on aesthetics.

I'm watching World War Z right now and I think I just saw Brad Pitt use an Insingo to chop that Israeli chicks arm off ;)

Meh, I've seen some QC issues lately. Lots of off center blades and side to side play. Maybe they aren't super bad yet, but for the prices they're charging, they should becoming to you flawless

Of the three BMs I've acquired this year, the best out of the box was, ironically, the HK 14715, which also happened to be the cheapest. Came centered, solid lockup, no play, smooth, and sharp. Just an incredible value blade.

Only gripe with volli was minor side to side play.

Presidio was a different story. Tolerance issues caused too much play when pivot was loose enough to flick, or too tight to operate when play was eliminated. Stopped carrying it until I replaced backspacer with some standoffs to match blade+washer thickness. Came out great though. Looks better, no play, and smooth as butter.

I do agree that for the price you pay these inconsistencies shouldn't exist. I still like BM, but QC definitely needs to be stepped up.

Cool, man! Yeah I noticed a lot of my blade play mysteriously disappeared when I put the new scales and standoffs on the mini grip.....hmmm. Any reason BM can't just get it right from the factory?

Well crap! I turn 25 in a couple weeks and I don't even have a damascus seb yet. I better get on that.

Man, there was a basketweave small plain Jane going for sale the other day on the exchange. Good price too. Wish I jumped. I just bought this, after selling my standard small micarta.

Got the last one. Happy almost birthday dude, you ought to hit me up for a beer one of these days depending on where you're at.

Ok, so I've been flipping this Lansky Responder knife for a couple of days now, and I've gotta say this thing has really smoothed out. The blade fires really hard when you pre-load it. I'm liking it a lot; great budget knife.

Haha thanks. I appreciate the gesture, I really do, but I'm 2 years sober. If I start back drinking there's no way in hell I'll ever be able to afford one of those small insingo micartas. Seriously man, that is a nice looking knife. I'm not really one for smalls, but that might be one of the sexiest sebs I've seen(right behind my worn in plain of course).

I never could figure this out. How do I quote people with their names in it?

Oh and I'll use random.org to pick the mini grip winner when i get home from work. It is way to early to start collecting names.

I hear you brotha, we'll get a couple of sodas then! Congrats on 2 years man, that's a huge accomplishment.

I prefer the large Sebenzas too actually, but generally buy smalls because I prefer them for daily carry, and large Sebenzas for weekend, camping, just because type of days. The large definitely fills the hands more properly. If I only buy one knife in 2015, large Insingo or large DT is the move. Typical...doesn't have newest knife in hand, planning on next knife already...Lol

Thanks, and I know what you mean. If ever get another sebenza it will be a large insingo micarta.
Who's going to blade?

Sweet, I just cant decide whether or not I want to go. On one Jane I'm not particularly fond of crowds, and there will always be 2016. On the other hand this is going to be the only chance through out the year to handle pretty much any knife my heart desires. Oh, decisions decisions...

Never have been able to get into sports. I tried to watch a few games last year, but it just wasn't going to happen.

Rutha73-
Can I get in on this one? I have been wanting to compare a mini grip to my delica! I got the delica cheap off a friend at work and have been wondering if the grip would have been a better choice. Thanks for the chance!
You sure can, and you won! You can email me your shipping info at clymore.erik@yahoo dot com.

Congrats Rutha73! You had some good vibes heading your way!

So my daughter had a school assembly today and as I was getting out my ZT clip snagged on the door of my truck. Needless to say, it got bent all to sh*t :(

I'm in the process of bending her back, but for now I threw on a spare clip I had from my 0801. It's a little big for the handle but it's all good.

Congrats Rutha73! And sadsappysucker - good on ya for the giveaway!

Hey John, it's easier to bend the clip back into position if you take it off the knife. (Just in case you didn't know that)

Here's my procedure - just take the clip off, wrap it in scotch tape (if you don't want it to get scratched), use a couple of needle nose pliers to bend and tweak the clip back into shape, checking for fitment and tightness along the way by holding it up to the knife (without screwing it down) to check position and tension. Once you've got it where you want it, remove the tape, if there is any residue remove it with goof off or WD-40 or something similar, then reinstall the clip. Voila, clip back in position, with no scratches, and you get to fine tune the tension and position in the process.
