Today I received my new red and black micarta handled fire steel from bark river today, along with a new pocket sheath intended for use with my new Bradford guardian3. Now I dunno where I saw, read, or possibly dreamed it all up, but I recall being informed that the choil on the guardian3 will work well for a fire steel.
Well, it doesn't.
I know I know, I should have got a saber grind if that's what I wanted but I recall seeing or reading that the choil was ok to use! So now the system I had intended to create will not work anymore. On top of that, I have carbon fiber scales for the guardian3 on the way when I wish I had a knife with a saber grind to put them on, but now after buying a knife and scales I can't justify buying another of the same knife knife just because the grind on this one won't work for the function I want it to, yet the result of the former scenario will be not using the guardian at all because now it doesn't fit my needs. Oh well. After all that in retrospect I've never even started a fire with a ferro rod, but it would have been nice to have a system on deck to carry or have for a bug out or whatever. Anyway, that's my minor knife topic that's bugging me today...
It's kind of pathetic that the crappy metal thing that comes in the KnivesShipFree fire kit shoots hella more sparks all over off the new ferro while the guardian's choil barely at all.
I suppose this kind of spawns off me buying this
I'm excited to make my way through this book, although I was a Life Scout nearly Eagle (but not quite :/) I'm sure it contains a plethora of knowledge I'll enjoy learning.
Oh! I almost forgot. I picked up the Benchmade 761 and seriously I think everyone needs to try it. It boasts this 3.73 inch blade but it's so LIGHT! And SLIM! The design is very well put together, the lockbar and interface interlock together and the noise and sight of it screams precision. I'll hold this closer to a Sebenza than any other I've acquired or seen recently. It's the first Benchmade I've purchased new (out of 6 total) that is perfectly centered, and I actually didn't even worry about it initially because of the quality the knife oozed.
Like I was caught in a moment, where if this addiction had a peak or a climax, if you will, that I experienced one of the best I've had yet at that very moment if initial handling.
It was that good hahahahaha
The standoffs are machined in a way that is aesthetically pleasing to me

It's got jimping at the top and bottom of the handle for either grip...it's a winner all around a swear.
It came roaring sharp out of the box.
Like slicing thick bubbled manilla packages open as if it were just a sheet of paper.
Seriously though I know having a tip down knife SUCKS but it's actually very clever how the pivot is covered by it, it's really plays into the design of it all. It's not even that bad to deploy, it putting it away that I'm having trouble getting used to.

Oh! And the titanium takes scratches so well that it's going to gain so much character so fast....I will say this. If you are anal about scratches on your knife handle I wouldn't recommend....this thing want character, and it wants it now.
I'm not a bench made employee or anything, you can look at one of my first posts here to see that very clearly haha.
Enough rambling for now I suppose
