The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Nice! I just got ahold of my first Busse -- an Elmax Game Warden. In an azwelke sheath, I am thoroughly impressed at how well it carries horizontal between 12 and 1 on the belt.

I have an Elmax Active Duty on order with Knifehunter now.

They're addictive! It's a slippery slope man. Long time, no see bud! Good to see you here.

Nice blade Kris! Looks like it has a good grind for slicing stuff. Looks damned stout too.

Oh it's stout all right!

But I kinda dig it. If I need something less stout I've always got my multi tool blade and my keychain SAK. This bad boy could get me through a trip to freaking Africa and it wouldn't even notice, yet at the same time it still cuts well. Its pretty cool to have something like that in your pocket. Comparing it to my mini grip makes me LOL, looks like a toy now!:D

Ant, that Varga is looking as good as ever!
I went ahead and tuned up my sebenza the other day, so that's been in my pocket a lot lately. I didn't have any luck finding the tritium, so I just went ahead and put the lanyard pin back in.
Here it is with me(and my GEC) this morning trout fishing on the Chattahoochee.

Hey, nice to see you around! Nice photos man! My brother gave me a kayak a while back and I have yet to even put it in the water. To tell you the truth, I'm a little apprehensive. I would have no idea what I'm doing.

A serious question, man to man, how hard is kayaking? Is the learning curve steep? I'd really like to get out and use the thing.

In my area there are a few lakes, a couple rivers, and the Gulf of Mexico. No way in hell am I going out in that...

Seb looks good bro. I'm glad to see you carrying traditionals. I like them quite a bit too.

Now I have that Alan Jackson song stuck in my head. "Went down yonder on the Chattahoochee, never knew how much that muddy water meant to me..."

I know the feeling! It's great to have a blade you know you can depend on. That's how my Varga has wound up to be. That thing just won't quit.

If you carry that bruiser and really work it out, it'll be like a old friend. I only have a few blades like that. They get to be like an extension of your hand. A truly trusted tool. It's such a beautiful thing to see them gain character and grow fond memories for you through use. Treasure it youngblood.

But no. I hadn't kayaked a day in my life prior to getting it. I just took it out to a pond and started rowing. Like everything I'm sure there is some technique, but I just kind of winged it. I've only been taking it on the river for about two weeks now. I was pretty skeptical about getting out in the current until one day while I was fishing off the bank I saw a guy throw his in and just start paddling up the river like it was nothing. Before that I only took it to lakes. I've never flipped the thing, although I came close one day when a wake caught me off guard and hit me at the perfect angle.
There is really nothing to it, and this is coming from one of the most uncoordinated guys on earth.
My dad talked me into taking it to FL and putting it in the ocean. It is not an ocean kayak. That was a bad idea...

You know what would accent that FF? A nice thin pretty little slip joint! Go on. Just get one. You won't be sorry.

I have this image in my head of Ant kayaking down a river for the first time, and the stereotypical "Abandon ship, waterfall ahead!" thing happens to him... He never kayaks again:D

I agree with Erik, you need a nice slipjoint, bro.

You guys and your slipjoints:rolleyes::D

I'll think about it. I honestly don't disagree, it would be nice to have a super thin traditional to pair up with this thing. But then that means more money spent and more weight on my body than I already have. Hell, where would I even put the thing? I've got it worked out right now soy that I'm perfectly able to carry all of my stuff, but I don't know where I would fit an extra blade on me. I've already technically got 4:D

Let's see....

The FF in right front pocket with phone
The k-bit in waistband
The multitool in left front pocket
SAK on key chain hanging from belt loop by carabiner
And the other pockets are full of other stuff, like the coin pocket has a lighter in it, back right has wallet and flashlight, back left has a charging cable for my phone, belt has a little pouch holding a portable charger to go with it (I have a really bad habit of not keeping my phone charged so I figured this was a good idea)

Running out of real estate!:)

But then whenever I see Blues' Dunlap, I think damn there's gotta be way to get that in my pants somehow:D

Indeed! I was happy to see this thread back up top.

The AMS is next on my list, but being a slim guy, the handle may stick out a tad too far on the belt. That probably won't stop me from getting one soon enough. With the quality they put out, I'm not surprised that Busse knives can be addictive. If I had the money for it right now, I'd love to pick up one of their sword models. :D

I keep kicking around the slip joint idea too. The pictures that Blues puts up of his don't help my resistance. :) The SAK is technically a nice thin slicer, though, so it's a step in that direction.

With a big ol hunk of infi on his hip!
Cuz you never know when you might need to hack through some river rocks to free yourself or your vessel.

Lol, I would need new drawers for sure! I think that gif is pretty accurate too.

I'd probably just faceplant right off of the sucker, hack the kayak to pieces with my battle mistress, put the blade in my teeth and swim to shore. The damn thing is some type of plastic! No way would I try to ford the mighty rapids. [emoji38]

I see the Mordax, I like it! Love my Archbishop, so perfect! I know what you mean about your other knives feeling/looking like toys now! FF knives are so freakin solid!
They made the Archbishop handle slimmer, so it only weighs like 4.9 oz, somewhere around there. It has gone with me to work everyday this week. My off days the FF original Deuce rules the roost!! They make great knives though, right!?! Glad you like it. With the steel lock insert and HRD, it will last forever! neither of those will probably ever have to be replaced, but an easy replacement if they do have to. Enjoy man!!
