IDK, economics, inflation, increasing manufacturing prices, wages ect...I still think its pretty lame, and BM and Spyderco always seem to be the two biggest culprits and other companies jump on. I agree, there will always be people who pay without hesitation but seriously paying over 80 bucks for somethings like a Delica 4 with plastic handles, foreign made and VG-10, is beginning to get a little ridiculous IMO. I guess for me it will depend on how high of a price increase we are looking at. Anything over 20 bucks and I am probably out, ill just look at cheaper options or look to these Chinese companies who are providing great steels and construction at considerably lower prices. Needless to say it looks like ill be buying less knives this year and ill probably look to other companies that dont have a spider or butterfly printed on the blade....
At the end of the day, if you don't see the value, don't spend the money. But if you do want to find the value, you have to do some research for yourself. There seems to be a disconnect in this entire discussion where guys are talking like they have data that they cannot possibly have. There also seems to be a disconnect, if x company is to expensive I'll buy from y company, without looking at any of the compromises that entails. Maybe I can get a knife cheaper from a company with no rep. But how do I find out how they treat their people? Spyderco and Benchmade seem to treat their folks at least well enough that they don't ghost dump on the forums. How can I find out the reputation of the owner? If they are in the english speaking part of the world, pretty easy. Is that worth a dollar to me? Sure is. If those don't matter to you, then by all means, go buy what you like. I suspect in about 10 years there will be a lot of Ti slab-side knives on the used market for pretty cheap, and a lot of insta-smiths who's work will be under pawn-shop counters.IDK, economics, inflation, increasing manufacturing prices, wages ect...I still think its pretty lame, and BM and Spyderco always seem to be the two biggest culprits and other companies jump on. I have a couple hundred us made knives. They weren't and aren't diminished returns. In fact they grow in value everyday. Plus pride in ownership and friends with the manufacturers. Plus they support knife rights that you get to enjoy.Sure thing man, thanks for the advice! So nice to see keyboard warriors are strong on this forum as they are everywhere else. But US made pr foreign made there exists a place when price far outweighs function or usefulness. Its call diminished returns, look it up sine you apparently have so much free time. Have a super awesome new year!!

Well, enjoy your time here. This is just a topic that happens about every four months, and the same players play the same tunes. If you get enough knife from 60$, cool. I get enough from about the 160USD mark in general, but its all good, there is room for both. As you've found though, if you want to pick a fight, there are a lot of folks on holidays who've not spent much of the last week purely sober, and some who are just always game for a round. But if you want to learn, feel free to look around and ask some questions, we have some of the best in the business as members here.Sure thing man, thanks for the advice! right, like the knife rights that people like D. Ritter fought hard for. Then he designed a knife for BM to support his cause. Then BM basically stole his design with the Freek, and discontinued the Ritter Grips...yeah and you say I dont support knife rights cause I get upset at these huge companies continuously increasing prices at the beginning of EVERY year. Lets face it American doesn't necessarily mean quality anymore. Keep on doing your thing if it makes you feel better.
Who said anything about knife rights? Also, America was never guarantee of quality, I mean sure there is a generalization that can be made, but slapping a made in usa sticker on something isn't magic.right, like the knife rights that people like D. Sure, I can buy a Kershaw Dividend that is us made with m390 for 20 bucks less than a delica 4 that has been shipped thousands of miles away,Welcome back!
Anyway a bit of a Stretch (get it?) to imagine that a knife made in a first world country like Japan would cost less than a knife made in a first world country like the United States of America.
What's the specifics on why something made an ocean away and shipped by boat across that ocean should cost less than something that wasn't made an ocean away and then shipped across an ocean by boat? Take your time.
And just for the record; VG-10 is a "Super Steel".
Makel threw in the knife rights like he knew what he is talking about. and yes I said american doesnt necessarily mean quality, thanks for re wording my point dude...Who said anything about knife rights? sound like you have smoked too much weed man if your actually happy paying an extra 20 plus a year for the same things.Let me guess, you want everything to stay the same price just for you right? People like you don't understand what it takes to run a business. All you see is the price increase and nothing about why those increases are happening. Ok, gotcha, inflation is a make believe thing I guess. Gee, I wish gas was still $.85 a gallon like it was when I first started driving or cigs were still $1.75 when I started smoking, or weed was $25 an oz...![]()
