The Knife of 2015

I'm going to have to brood about this one for a bit.....

This year I was very fortunate to get quite a few new items, some fixed blades too. The interesting thing is I can honestly say that no knife this year has disappointed me or suffered from build faults, even the low cost ones. This in itself is rare and an achievement I feel.

Thinking Cap on.....:D

Regards, Will

I own about twenty GEC knives and most of them have nice bone handles and several are #15s. For some reason, this #15 Boys knife with nifebrite handles is the one that ends up in my pocket the most. Maybe it is because I am not afraid to knock it off of a table or work bench onto a hard floor, I don't know. It sort of reminds me of inexpensive Delrin handled barlow knives from Camillus or Kabar that I would see in hardware store displays as a kid. Simple knives that people were not afraid to use.

I'm not sure which one is my favorite, as I haven't revived them all, but the #15 Rope Knife in any of it's variants is my favorite knife of the year. I love the way they look like little butchers - I just love them.

Second in line, and would have been my first, if not for the rope, is the Northwoods Michigan Jack in MI.

Third on my list is the Tidioute EO #25 in bocote.

A more than honorable mention is the Northwoods EDB. Superb knife, easy to use, super sharp, nice stainless, and a Barlow.

Deliberation over, the 38 frame from GEC produced some excellent versions both two and three blade. The workmanship on the backspring of the Whittler is deeply impressive and none of mine exhibit blade-rub, that so many people say is 'inevitable' with traditionals... Best 3 blade production knife and yet svelte in the hand, comfortable. The Farmer's Jack versions were also mighty impressive (regards to Charlie & Lyle there). There's still a lot more potential with this frame such as Clip master, Pen or Coping minor on single-spring- a stainless version with NS liners would be Knirvarna too but I suspect it won't happen given GEC's seeming aversion to stainless  So that's my backsprung non locking choice.

Cranberry was delicious and I hope to see more Cranberry Bone ahoy very soon..:D

But wait, I want to give special mention to the GEC 83 lockback too. They really got the mechanics of this one (and the Wall St.) right, extremely precise and a useful compact size, blade choice and plenty of handle options but I was tremendously fortunate with the Stag I was able to get, barky! The 77 Barlow merits a lot of praise too. It's been difficult choosing one so I got pedantic and nominated one non locker and one locker:cool:

Thanks for the studied response Will

KP and Jrawk, nice to see such decisiveness

This is one that I hadn't planned on even getting, but it is my favorite of the year. I'm hoping for 2016 to pick up a TV with mammoth bark handles, before my state outlaws ivory.

Very sad to hear Canal Street Cutlery closing up shop. My knife of 2015 has to be this CSC Pinch Lockback in 440C and polished black micarta...

Wishing the good folks of CSC all the best in future endeavors and a very Merry Christmas!

I've acquired several knives over the past year, Beer Scouts, SAK's, Barlows, and Scouts, but two stand out as being my most cherished, and carried. One is a #22 from my lady love, Donna, who felt her man needed a pretty little knife. The other was a first run TC Barlow gifted to me by our own Sarah, and I'm not ashamed to say it was a gesture that brought tears to my eyes. There may be newer and prettier, but none as special.

Every once in a while, a knife just strikes a chord with me. In my case for 2015, this Wiseman Front Pocket pattern did for me. Gene builds an excellent custom slip joint at a reasonable price. Not a typical traditional, but a very fine working custom that begs to be used.

That looks like a great working pattern JB, really nice lines

I e been thinking about this long and hard. I had just assumed that I had gotten the presidential last year, so I was going to leave it out of the running. That left the 77 2ade medium Barlow and the 15 forum knife. The winner WAS the 77. However, I decided to do some digging and stumbled upon the thread from when I first got my northwoods presidential. I was shocked to find out I've only had this knife since the beginning of April. This knife has seen the inside of my pocket more then my phone! I love everything about it, and it is THE knife that really got me into traditionals.
So without further adieu, I present MY knife of 2015:
