The knife that stopped you cold

Did ya ever get a new one in the mail, and when you opened it up and held it in your hand you just kind of sat there dumbfounded? I've had many that made me grin widely, but when I first took out my Amphibian, it stopped me cold. I guess you can tell it's my first MT. New old stock, 01/2002 - no funky space robot screws, no skateboard tape. (Get one from New Graham while you can, says I.)

So, what's the knife that knocked you for a loop?

That would be the Benchmade 805 TSEK. I liked it so much that I got myself an "extra" one. It is one of my 2 EDC's.

Lol Dann - you're the only forumite that I could have predicted the answer with 100% accuracy :). Enjoy those 805s!

Calypso. Brought the first one, sight unseen. Opened it, called New Graham to hold one for me and scrapped up cash right away

My SNG blew me away. My Spyderco Kiwi's fit and finish was unreal and amazed me. But when I got the grail of my collection a Bob T. CE with G-10 handles I was the happiest kid on the block. It took me 7 years to find one at the right time and it was worth the wait. SERE 2000 was another, to name a few.

.:D...I DO enjoy both of my BM 805's, and actually I wouldn't mind having an 805s (part serrated) to go with my 2 plain-eded ones.:D.

Production.... the Camillus OVB Fisk Southwestern Bowie. 11" Blade, fiddleback maple. An amazing knife for the price. It melds into my hand, becomes a weightless extension of my arm. And it really cuts. Makes me wish it was a comfortable EDC :)

To jump on the Benchmade bandwagon, I will say that my first 975SBT really grabbed me, and the 630 Blackwood Skirmish is a pretty amazing folder as well.

Strider US Marine Raider Dagger Prototype. Serial number XM01. Made with a blued A2 blade, 6/4 Ti handle and a 6/4 Ti guard. Note: the handle is NC turned, drilled and tapped 1" 6AL4V Titanium!!

Simply stunning and very stabby!

Off the top of my head, maybe the Camillus Dominator. While I love my knives, it's pretty hard to get me THAT excited that I'm like "HOLY COW, THIS THING IS AWESOME! CAN'T BREATH!" but when I opened the Dominator I was impressed by the quality of it for what I paid. This is when I really started to question the price of my Sebenza. :) Then with the whole Robo Assist it really added a cool factor.

I aslo was impressed with the construction and finsih on my Kershaw Random Leek and Chive. After having a Kershaw Avalance which I wasn't thrilled with, finish wise and it has a lot of blade play (I need to send it in for an over haul), I wasn't sure if i wanted to pick up another Kershaw, but I'm darn glad I did.

The funny thing is I don't remember getting all that excited over my BM710HSSR, which is my EDC. It's a great knife, but it's fairly ugly, but it is highly functional.

I don't think any knife I've owned has made me react that way...yet. A few have come close. My Spyderco SPOT was just such a cool little knife that I couldn't put it down. My Fallkniven A1 just felt 'tough' when I held it (still does). I love my Benchmade Osborne with blue handles (limited edition, although I don't collect, I use; needless to say, it probably isn't as valuable anymore). I still go WOW when I see the Fehrman Final Judgement and Busse Fusion BM. Can't wait to own them!

When I think back on the knives I've had, I'd have to say that the one that took my breath away was my first large, quality knife: The Victorinox Explorer. All of the shiny tools just waiting to get trashed with my 5th grader uses (and they did, and back then, maintenance was Windex once every two months :D ).

After that, I was impressed by all of my new knives and I was tremendously pleased, but it will be hard to recapture the feeling I got for my birthday when my second-cousin got me that bad boy. I think it was because I had wanted a real Swiss Army knife (which I thought was the top-dog of all knives) so badly for so long. I still have it, too. The scales are matte, I ruined the blade sanding it, but I still use it when I want a beater. I also have a newer Explorer.

NeedleRemorse, I've wanted to compliment you on your avatar for a long time; Joey Ramone RULES (or, sadly, ruled)! I've been listening to the Ramones since I was 7 (24 years is a loooooooong time). It's too bad that they didn't get the recognition they deserved while they were all still alive  .

Thanks J! I completely agree, but it must have been cool to have had an appreciation for them while they were around. There's a documentary called "End of the Century" due out in August, if I remember correctly. There's no shortage of Ramones fans round Bladeforums :D

Jorgen: That knife is stunning  I really like the way the handle is shaped, and the way that the blade and handle compliment each other. The fiber spacers are a very nice touch. Congratulations!

Thank you very much! I must be crazy, but I can sit and hold and look at this knife for hours! David Dempsey added the little extra to my original design! Great guy with superior support! ;)

RSK, tied closely with Mini-grip in D2. Of course, my Battle rat was one awesome unboxing...
