The Lake Minnetonka Record-Tying Ice-Out GAW!! WINNER IN POST #88!!

I used to make weekend trips to Lake Erie quite often with my dad. We would take the boat and cruise for hours. We regularly ended up around the West Sister Island which has a pretty awesome lighthouse.

Sorry for borrowing the image tho as a house fire took the ones we actually had :(
And here are some regularly carried knives :)

I would like to have one of those Muslin Micarta #71s. Very generous of you! Thanks for the opportunity!

Here's a picture of my Queen #11 Utility Trapper in Zebra Wood right in front of Two Mile Lake between Franklin and Titusville. I ice fish there with my dad. This particular time we had a logistics miscommunication and he ended up not actually being there o_O

Here are a few pictures of some bodies of water.

This is a great fishing spot my girlfriend and I found in the Shenandoah Valley:

Here's the Andreafsky river where I went on a Moose hunt / river float last year with my Dad, his friend, and my brother. I used only traditional knives on this trip:

This is Groves Run near the West Branch of the Susquehanna river where we have a family camp. One of my favorite places. A couple friends during hunting season:

This is the pond at the house where I grew up. Spent lots of time swimming, kayaking, some fishing, etc. on this one:

Awesome giveaway, thank you!

Here is the pond next to our house. I used to feed the fish here with my Grandma (used to be her house), but there aren't many fish anymore, and the owners have let it go a bit. Still nice to look at, and gives us some wildlife to observe in our small town. Can you spot the heron?

And it provides us with tons of frogs in our yard...

Is that a stainless GEC Navy Knife? That is a drool worthy knife for sure in my book

Well, I fully intended on drawing the winner of this thing today, but the day sort of got away from me. It wasn't the morning so much -- that was pretty laid back -- but this afternoon, we drove to Lowe's, bought a new lawnmower and trimmer, drove to Menard's to buy a couple plastic gas cans (they were way too expensive at Lowe's), bought gas, drove home, assembled the lawnmower, mowed the lawn, started assembling the trimmer, realized one of the parts was broken, drove back to Lowe's to exchange the trimmer, drove back home again, assembled the trimmer, used the trimmer (with just enough remaining daylight), reorganized a few things in the garage to accommodate the new mower and trimmer, ate dinner (about an hour later than the rest of the family, who ate while I was exchanging the trimmer)... and that about brings us to now. :D

I'll draw the winner tomorrow, come hell or high water. Until then, last-minute entries are still welcome.

Alright, it's time to announce the winner of this thing!

I know it's easy enough to use a random number generator or an Excel spreadsheet to randomly pick a giveaway winner, but since this is the "traditional" subforum, I've always felt it was more fitting to pick a random winner in a more traditional way... and what's more traditional than putting names in a hat?

So I wrote out the names of the 41 entrants on slips of paper...

...folded them up and dropped 'em in the hat...

...and enlisted my favorite GAW name-drawing sidekick to pick the winner.

Now, Eleanor has done a great job helping me pick a GAW winner before, carefully picking just one slip of paper out of the hat. Unfortunately, that wasn't what she had in mind today; instead, she kept trying to pull out half of the names at the same time. After a little coaxing, I finally got her to pick out just one piece of paper... which she promptly tossed aside. As if it were moving in slow motion, I watched that piece of paper leave Ellie's hand, flutter down to the deck, and slip right through the gap between the boards!

Now, the space beneath the back deck on this house we're renting is technically accessible, but I have to be honest, I wasn't particularly excited about the prospect of crawling around down here.

Thankfully, by looking down through the gap in the boards, I was able to locate the runaway piece of paper, and even managed to get a photo of it.

And, using the digital zoom on my iPhone's camera to its maximum ability, I was able to see that the winner of our giveaway is...

Will Power Will Power !!

Congrats, Will! I'll send you a PM here shortly.

Thanks again, everyone, for participating and sharing all your stories and photos! It was a lot of fun!

Congrats, Will!! Looks like a fine Bull Nose coming your way!:cool::thumbsup:

Thanks for the generous and entertaining GAW, Barrett.:thumbsup::cool: I really enjoyed seeing all the watery photos and reading everyone's stories! :)

And such a suspenseful drawing!;) I feared you were going to have to either read all the 40 names still in the hat to determine the missing winner, or fight a feral ferret to find the fallen fortunate fellow!

YIPPEEE!!! Thanks very much Barrett:cool:

My photos may have been very modest compared to some of the epic panoramas, but in my defence, the transformation this spring has been amazing. a VERY cold long winter, sea frozen for months etc but this past week it's a dazzling green everywhere, almost unreal, and the week end was 25-27c unheard of for this time of year:cool:

But there's another aspect, my name was drawn by Eleanor, thank you Miss! She shares her name with my niece so this makes it doubly cool:)

Regards, Will
