The Les George Knives Thread

I got busy Monday night so I didn't get a chance to install the Skiffs in my Myna until last night. I also polished the tang slot and stop pin a bit more. The "stick" at full open is almost all the way gone, still present sometimes but dropping shut freely others. I think the rest will work itself out with more break in. The Skiffs are definitely an improvement to an already good action as I expected they might be. Centering is slightly improved I think but still not perfect. Overall I like the knife a lot but I'm not sure if it will be a permanent fixture in my collection quite yet. For the time being I've enjoyed having it in my pocket even though I've been working through some issues.

The MK3 is a straight guillotine, so much so that I dropped mine and damaged the tip 😞

Not really a big deal as after the first sharpening it will be fixed but I hadn’t put this knife in my daily rotation yet.

The Pete Gray disc and the tip took the brunt of the drop, don’t see any other damage. Sparked like the 4th of July when it hit the tile. IMG_1590.jpegIMG_1591.jpegIMG_1592.jpegIMG_1593.jpeg

Seeing this made me more sad than a ASPCA and a St. Judes commercial back to back.

The USA Made Blade exclusive button lock Talos for defiant looks pretty cool. Might be tempted to try to snag one

Okay I'm out of the loop so someone help me understand...

USA Made Blade is going to have an exclusive button lock Talos...made by Defiant 7?

I’m confused as well with d7 now making a talos. The line between d7 and lg are getting blurry. No clue what the end goal here is. Doesn’t really make sense to me.

I'm already there on the new Talos. ;) Mine is brand new and isn't quite as slick yet, but it's darn close. Once I break it in, I have a feeling the VECP v3 and Talos are going to be fighting for pocket time. I flip-flop on which grip I prefer - when I grab the Talos, it's like "oh, this is it." Then I grab the VECP and I'm all "nah - it's this one." I guess it's a really good problem to have. lol

I do not won any LG knives yet, but it seems that i'm about to! Let me ask you this though, the VECP has that index finger groove on the scale but it's obviously on the small side (according to the pics always).
Does that create a hotspot? The Talos seems to be the more comfortable of the two

It doesn't create a hotspot for me at all - for my hand, it's actually an improvement over the previous versions that didn't have one. My index finger falls right into that spot on a tight grip.

Comfortable is so subjective that it's hard to say what fits my hand is going to fit another the same way. Feel-in-hand is one of the biggest factors for me between good knives and great ones. The VECP and Talos both have it for me.

If I had to give a judgement today, I would say the VECP is the more comfortable grip for my hands. It's pretty much perfect. I love how LG extended the top of the topside of the grip just a bit more than most knives this size, because it clears my palm and no matter how hard I grip, it just holds on and has zero hotspots. This is my biggest gripe with CRK (and I love CRK) - both the Seb and Inkosi have that little peak that's not far enough back to clear, and when I get a hard grip on them, that peak digs right into the flesh of my palm. The other difference between the two it how the lower section of the grip drops on the Talos and is jimped. That's just going to be personal preference - I still feel like my hand prefers how the VECP just tapers back.

Here's a pic just to show how my grip falls on it - I'm not sure there is a thing I would change.

Correct. Or at least exclusive with them to start with.

Thank you very much for the info and the photo. I do prefer the VECP a bit more (design-wise) because it looks more slick for EDC in an office environment so i was curious.

There’s still a big difference between an aluminum button lock and a titanium frame lock. Spartan has a Talos too

Interesting. Aluminum handles that aren't exactly identical (other than the obvious for the button lock) but very similar at a pretty compelling price point.

That one is totally unaffiliated with LG though, right? Just looked it up and it is a completely different knife and the page I pulled says it was designed by Bill Harsey.

You could be right. I’ve never looked at it closely just assumed being the same name it was the same. It looks like a Harsey design though

That hot spot on the end of the grip is why I can't use Chavez, which is a bummer because I love how they look!

I wear size XL gloves, and own both a couple VECPs and a Talos, and can say that they're both very comfortable to hold, just in a little different way. I find the Talos to feel like a smaller knife in hand, whereas the VECP is such a wonderfully neutral handle shape, that it fits me perfectly. I enjoy owning both frames, but if I HAD to pick one....it'd have to be the VECP.
