The Les George Knives Thread

I've disassembled a few button lock VECPs and haven't had any issues with the process. There really aren't any special tricks I can recall. Maybe something was just stuck a bit and needed to be wiggled free? Can you try it again and take a picture of where you're getting hung up?
How does the button mechanism work? Is it simply captured by the scales? Assuming there is a spring in there you need to be careful with when disassembling?

I've been playing with this button lock non stop and its fun. Already can start to feel that once in a while there is some button stick when disengaging. Curious, what is your routine for clean, lube, reassumbly? I use 10 wt nano oil on all my other folders.

The dlc version at DLT was gone quick. I goofed up for a split second then after I did the thumb thing for the card it was out of stock. I was so bummed I didn't even try USA made blade. Glad you scored brother
I didn't try for the DLC one, I actually didn't really like the look with the heavy stonewash on the handle but the DLC blade. I think the reverse looks really good, though!

I'm sure that was my mistake. I well I will own one some day 😄
Longer shot, but The Simian Sharpness store will be dropping frag pattern MK3s with black or tan DLC sometime soon.

I kind of dislike this store because they don't have any discernable organization to how they do these things, so I have never been good at catching releases from them, but it's an option, maybe.

Those look sexy as hell!

I just got a notice that they are 'coming soon.' You can sign up for 'in stock' email notifications.

Just to give it a shot, I just took the 2 torx and pivot screw out on the show side and couldn't figure out how to get the scale off. the clip side standoffs disconnected but I couldn't get the button lock out nor the pivot side to disconnect.

Would love to hear how its done.

The only thing holding it together at that point is friction so you should be able to just carefully wiggle the scale off. Be careful to not lose the spring that's between the plunger and the recessed bowl on the clip side scale as it tends to pop out of there when the scales are separated.

You might find it easier to do this with the blade deployed in order to use it as a bit of a fulcrum to help wiggle the scales apart (after both the standoff screws and pivot screw are removed), but I would highly suggest using masking tape on the blade edge first as that thing is scary sharp.

I used a wooden chopstick to pry apart a particularly tightly fitted Talos, worked like a charm with no effect on the DLC handle

Thanks for the tips boys! Did yall see the live stream with les and Allen Elisewitch’s new knife?

I've got a couple of thick wooden skewers in my knife maintenance case for this very reason. Sometimes you need to poke and pry, but don't want to scratch anything!

I did! The design is an LG and EK collaboration, but the OEM is in China. Apparently, that was the only way they could get an integral done without having it be incredibly expensive. 🤷 I figured this had to be the case when I saw it was $400. No way it could be a US made integral at that price point.

The knife is really neat, but I like the idea of Les having had his hands on the LG knives I own.To each their own, but that's how I feel.

Thanks y’all . I just didn’t pry hard enough I guess . I cleaned out with some compressed air and some nano oil after I washed it and it’s back to normal perfect action so won’t be taking it apart yet .

I feel bad not just taking a video for everyone, but I also have mine tuned exactly the way I like it and I'd have to reapply the Teflon tape. That and the fact I don't have any kind of recording setup aside from propping my cell phone against my knife case. 🙃

But know that you're not missing some crucial step or hidden screw or something.

Completely agree, made me smile to hear Les wanted it to be American made.
