The letters need to be written- Federal knife Ban update

It sounds similar to what happened in new york state, when in march/april 2005, the federal assault rifle ban was slipped in with other paperwork & signed & adopted by nys as a state law at 2:30 am in the morning. it has stuck ever since.sounds like they are trying similar tricks with knives, only on a national federal level. like theres not enough problems in this country, this should be the least of their worries........

Guys, don't think this can't happen. I live in NE Ohio, and I carry only nail nick knives of 2.5" or less. That's what's legal. A buddy of mine made the mistake of carrying a small Gerber one hand opener to court. He took it out and left it at the cop station, but they were there to arrest him when he came out...possession and conveyance of a deadly weapon. $2500 in lawyer fees later, he's out of trouble.

Oh, and that knife is legal around here! I have several larger knives...we're talking Tenacious and Native types...that I only carry when going south away from this nutty city.

I drove to the post office tonight so I could mail my letter off to customs asap...I hope everyone writes their elected officials as well...I can't believe what this government is trying to do...:barf:

I just sent my letters via email and postla mail to:

washington DC, two senators, one representative, and one govorner.

Thanks for keeping us updated, We have to protect and enjoy our freedoms.

Writing letter later, ill go down guns (or knives) blazing before they take away my only real hobby!!

I wonder what percentage of knife owners actually voted for this by supporting the current administration?
They were warned stuff like this would happen.
I wonder if any will change their minds, how many will turn in their knives and how many will end up criminals for not turning in their knives.

What will be next?
Guns,SUVs,meat or testosterone?

our elected officials must be told that this country will not be modeled after england,,

they'll trade blood with me before they get mine

Guys, with all due respect, this is the kind of crap that needs to be kept out of letters to your representatives.

I understand that you're kidding or speaking figuratively, but this kind of Dirty Harry, devil my care attitude is not going to help the cause of good citizens trying to keep their hobbies legal.

Please be careful what you put in your letters. I know this is an important issue, but the last thing we want is to come off looking like a bunch of lunatics.

I'm not trying to troll for reactions, just please be careful with the wording and the content of your reasoning when you contact your representatives.

I just re-wrote the form letter myself, and tried to keep the majority of it original. At least 5 copies are stamped and ready to be mailed out on the way to work tomorrow.

They came for the switchblades and I did not speak up. I always considered them to complex, fragile, and unreliable anyway. They came for the fixed blades and I did not speak up. A folder is more convenient for me to carry anyway. They came for the AO's and I did not speak up. See my comments about switchblades.

Then they came for the 3.25 inch blade liner locks--my EDC. I protested, but they tossed me in jail anyway. There was no one left to speak up for me.

Good lord, what is the world coming to? I wish you all the best in your fight. ALL of my knives come from the USA and I would be VERY distressed if such a law came to pass. Strength to your writing hands!

Good to hear you guys are writing them. Please send as many as you can to the right people. They need to hear from us !!!!!

Thanks to all who have responded, but we need EVERYONE on this forum to send letters and emails. If only a handful of letters trickle in, then it won't be taken seriously. We need to overwhelm them with response. If everyone here and on the other online forums participates, it WILL make a difference.

Thanks for your support. It's YOUR KNIVES we are trying to protect. We cannot do it without YOUR Help.

Write NOW and spread the word. Lots of help, sample letters, etc. at www.KnifeRights.org

IDK if I remember this correctly. Does this ruling concern only the importation of (BS) switchblades, or does it concern the ownership and carrying of domestically produced or previously imported (BS) switchblades? Does it designate anything other than certain imported knives as (BS) switchblades?

This ruling will affect every knife company in the U.S. and most knife owners in the U.S. DO NOT ASSUME that just because this involves Customs that this only covers imported knives. This proposal would become the federal definition of what a switchblade is and it would be applied at all levels. Your one-hand opener, as well as likely most other folders, would be considered switchblades and would be subject to all the restrictions of the Federal Switchblade Act. Crossing a state line with a pocket knife would make most knife owners a federal felon. Enter an Indian Reservation, even just driving through, exactly the same.

This WILL affect YOU. This is about YOUR knives. It will affect your favorite knife companies. Few knifeowners and NO knife companies would be untouched if this proposal is accepted.

I'm not sure about that.

I'm not sure about that.

You may not be sure about it, but others in the know are. Why would you make such a silly comment like that on such a serious matter? Are you a lawyer?

I will leave it at that so I don't get in trouble...

how can customs try to bypass congress to get this insanity into law? looks like ill be a felon, because i'm not giving up a hobby ive been into for 30 years because a new administration has their heads up their you know what!:barf:

I don't get it. I followed the link to the knife rights home page, and read through the document they posted there. The proposed ban explicitly names several assisted-opening models, but I simply don't see how it could be construed to cover one-handed opening knives or slipjoints. Someone enlighted me, please?

I don't agree with restricting any type of knife for sale, but it seems like some of the "cold, dead fingers" crowd may be overreacting a bit.

I'm not trying to challenge anyone, I just need to seperate hype from fact before I sign my name to a letter.

I have fed up with this. There are some actions need to be taken to protect our knife rights.

we are just very touchy when it comes to some faceless suit deciding that they dont like us possessing modern versions of man's first tool,
we do over-react but only because we see what this can and probably will lead to.
