62.5 deuce? That's the first car I was ever paid to restore!
E
I restored the Camaro but as I got older I developed a bad back and could not work on it anymore so sold it. It was a sad day. The Chevy 2 Nova is actually my younger sons and he doesn't have the money at the moment to work on it. I love old Chevy's

I totally agree with this statement! As one of those with less than 50 posts I do want to say how this has given me the impetus to actually post something. I am so new to knives I feel I don't have a lot of knowledge/experience to contribute, but through giving I have gotten to know a few of you and it has been a great "ice breaker" for me as a new member. I have ALWAYS liked the idea of doing something like this since that pay it forward corny movie I had to watch with my wife....lol. What has been a blessing to me is seeing the many very nice things payed forward here and people passing on things to others, etc. Even with those that try to grab a lot up, I feel like bladeforums has a lot of good folks in it and that I have found a new "home". Thanks guys and gal(s). (Not sure if there are other females besides Nikki :) )

BTW...has anyones wife's been asking "What in the world are you boxing up now?" lol. When I paid my Grateful Dead artist prints forward she thought I had went nuts. :)

I tried to ignore it for the longest but some people, and im not saying names you know who you are, are really taking advantage and disrespecting my home. so now i will speak my mind and then forget about it, but my mind needs to be cleared now.

Its so sad to see the people who join and never participate even in conversations and all they do is search for free stuff. theirs 100s of free websites with freebies, they can go there. I dont mind people asking for stuff they need, especially people with not very much money. but everyone should be aware ALL your post are visible to everyone, so we know what you have bought, we know what you have begged for, and we know what you have contributed to this forum. If you have around 50 posts or less... and more than half of them is asking for stuff free, then this message is for you. If not carry on.

For the awesome people who do participate, and take the time to answer others questions THANK YOU and you ROCK.

I have been blessed here and have gotten quite a few things that ROCK! But I also give here in this thread and ALL OVER BF.. before this thread was ever made I have had 4 or 5 give-aways and contests just this year. Im not rich, i get 1500 bucks a month total, my rent is 850, my utilities come to 300 and i have 2 small children and food isnt cheap, you do the math. And i still find ways to help and give... but Im here all the time, and love the place, granted i spend most my time in the Becker, Busse, and swamp rat sides but im here, participating, enjoying the people and the stories, helping others with questions and problems and so much more.

This place is my home. I dont sleep, i have been a member 1 year and have well over 5000 posts. SO when i see someone that keeps disrespecting or taking advantage of my home i start to get upset, but like others say, we just let them carry on with their lives and ignore them.

I think that everytime someone list something, they should look at the persons profile page that claims it, and if all they do is search the forums for free stuff, they need to pass it to the next person who participates here. People spending hundreds of dollars on knives, but have no care to donate the measly 20-30 dollars to be a gold member or even take the time to get to know the other members and all they do is use the search function for GAWs and contest, these people should be ignored completely.

I spoke my mind and will ignore the bastards from now on... carry on

Are any of you guys adventurous home cooks? I've got something to post up in a bit as I'm on tapatalk right now and can't put up pictures.

Edit:
This is a Dexter-Russell, made in SouthBridge, MA, US of A it has a high carbon stainless blade. Dexter is fairly well known for their huge meat cleavers that chop through bone.

***But note that this guy is done in a Chinese chef knife pattern, it actually has a fine edge for slicing and can't chop through heavy bone. It will make short work in processing a whole chicken though. The back spine is for whacking and tenderizing, you can use the flat portion for flattening out pork chops or for smashing garlic, does a wonderful job at this. I hacked at a frozen pork butt once and I dented the edge a bit. So as soon as I re-profile it, its going to be available for grabs. *That's a steak knife above it btw for size comparison purposes.

Good morning guys and gals,
I have a suggestion for the thread number three guidelines. Maybe the shipping should be put upon the receiver. This might encourage more giving and discourage overtaking. It can still be up to the giver to cover shipping anyway if they want. But if its in the guidelines then maybe you wont see as much gimmie gimmie. Also make it clear in the guidelines that the giver can, and should, check activity and choose whom they gift based on that activity... Or something like that.
I'll leave it up to Jim since this is his thread. Just an idea.

Ryan and Nat I'm shipping your items out this morning.

If that works for you, then go for it. I personally don't want to deal with the hassle of money changing hands. And it deviates from how I perceived the intent of the thread. It would be just another rule, and I got enough of those in my life as is. Everyone should be free to hammer out the details, though, between themselves and the recipient. My golden rule going forward is this: WWND (what would Nikki do?)...LOL...

BTW, for those of you hanging on the edges of your seats since last night, NYOutdoors did finally PM me about the machetes. Stay tuned for the continuing saga...

LMAO! That's gold, thank you for that. So how are my fellow cohorts doing this fine morning?

On bigger items that's always a good option but for standard (small box/ mailer envelope size stuff) I don't think there should be any such stipulations. One reason being alot of us are in need and don't have much money, nor a way to send money (I don't have PayPal, I know I'm not the only one). As with all the other ideas brought up before it would be a good idea if the members here wernt so self policing as is but its running just fine, no need to change it or start puttin on more stipations. No more rules are really needed nor would they make it run any smoother.

I've sent out over $60 worth of packages and I don't mind at all nor will I start to ask for postage for future items paid forward.

Edit post 870, cool (as in remmy 870)

Great!! Im glad you could get him squared away!! I tried LMAO but not only did he not want my machete, the group almost demanded i discard it immediately LMAO

Just kidding around, better safe than sorry. And while im not throwing it away, i wont be using it conventionally either. I may try and cut a small knife out of the blade, just for poop and giggles LMAO

So what you're saying is, you need a machete too. *sigh* My work is never done, it seems.

Mayhemflipper PM'd me that his package arrived, has your arrived yet CJZ?

We want pics! Mayhem said he's hog hunting this weekend, glad the timing was good.

I love the 'received item action shots' part of this thread!

Question for you machete lovers, how does the blade hold up? Are they really good wood processing tools? My only exp with one is a $3 pot-metal one from harbor freight and it was (as you can guess) less than impressive. Blade was absolutely horrible.

And the winner of the small handmade fixed blade I posted up earlier is: NikkiR!

She guessed exactly the correct price (8,000), so I felt no need to continue until the original deadline.

In case you missed it, here is the fixed blade she won:

And here is the custom ZT that sold for 8,000:

While that knife looks cool, i never cared for damascus looks. The handle does look superb though. but Id buy a motorcycle for 8000. I wouldnt be allowed to drive it but hey, it would look good sittin in a driveway. And thats not a knife thats getting used im sure, its looking good sitting in a display most likely. Id rather have a motorcycle on display HAHA

Yeah, you're not going to get very good quality from crappy big-box store machetes. I have the same Harbor Freight machete. I bought it for the sheath, really. But you can get very good quality steel, and fit/finish from just about any reputable machete manufacturer. I have Cold Steel, Condor, Ontario, and Tramontina, and would recommend any variety from these manufacturers highly. My personal favorites are the Ontario 12" Cutlass (1095 steel), Condor Golok (1075 I believe), and Tramontina Bolo (1070). The style/shape of the machete will be dependent on your intended uses. I love the Ontario for a backpacking machete. The Golok is just too durn heavy to justify humping it very far, but it's a helluva chopper. The Tram is a great beater, the soft steel means you can bring the edge back from certain doom. And if you destroy it (unlikely), you're only out a few bucks.

Ok, I just got to work, and I sifted through the wake-up time guesses. Before I announce the winner, I'd like to say that this was a game for me as much as it was for y'all. I really didn't know when I was going to wake up; I might wake up before the alarm, or I might semi-unconsciously hit the snooze a few times.

Today's time was 7:15. I think ALLHSS had the closest guess.

Congratulations! Send me an email with your info, and I'll try to send it out next week :)
