Yeah it is. Chinese chef cleaver/knives were used as weapons back in the day in Hong Kong, in the 50's and 60's as told by my dad. Apparently there were turf wars in China post civil war reconstruction so normal people just used whatever they had to protect their families from gangs. On that note, it absolutely slays carrots and celery! :D
I thought I was adventurous... Till I saw what you meant by adventurous. That's a big knife.

Ok. Three packages are about to go out the door;

1- to the man that got this rolling...ZT0550
2- to BlueCollar (Calvin)...4Sevens Preon1 anodized red
3- to Chevy...Hogue EX-02 large spear point green gmascus

plan to ship Priority Mail and I wil post here when I get back, along with emailing each individual.

Peace to all my brothers and sisters here at BladeForums!!:)

Thats just awesome, way to go man!!!

I had a BK9, and it was just too unweildy, I much prefer the BK7. Seems like there is such a thing as too much knife sometimes.

The Micarta Grips on yours look great Eagle, I bet they really transform it and push it to the next level.

What would you recommend specifically for wood processing, no need to be light weight as I dont plan to carry it around. By wood processing I mean everything from trimming the offshoots off trees, removing dead over-hang, chopping up everything from tender wood to logs and possible splitting logs. On and cheap.

Well, with those requirements, you're going to have to compromise somewhere. Nikki and Iceman's recommendations are good ones, but you won't have much reach with a BK9 (try clearing a space in a grassy field with it, you'll see what I mean), and you'll get tired from swinging a Kershaw Camp 14 after a while. I tend to steer more toward thinner longer machetes. They'll excel at the trimming/limbing tasks you mention, and will do a decent job on smaller wood-processing jobs. Where it will not shine is larger log splitting/battoning, due to the thin stock not creating much of a "wedging" effect when you're batonning. I've used my thin Tramontina to good effect on log rounds up to 8" in diameter, but you have to really work it. So it can be done, but I'd save the heavier stuff for task-appropriate tools like an axe, or hammer/wedge combo. Luckily, due to the soft nature of most Latin-made machetes, they will bend like crazy, but are unlikely to break. I might not say that about some of Condor's stainless offerings, but I haven't really put that steel to the test, yet. Got a few, but they're more stabbers than choppers. If ya really want to chop some stuff, but want a touch of versatility too, I'd highly recommend the Condor Golok. They have a few other offerings that would work (the Thai Enep, and Bushcraft Parang come to mind), but I haven't had any hands-on experience with these. They come highly recommended by people I respect, though, so I'd feel comfortable giving them a try too.

Thanks! I can't speak enough good about my BK7. I LOVE it. The only gripe I have with them is the sheath. It could use a much better sheath than the one it comes with haha.

Wow very generous of you! I love my ZT 0550. It's been in my collection for a long time and I've had some custom work done to it.

Since we are coming up on 1000 posts we really should do something to regulate the next thread, I mean people can set their own rules but we could at least set it to you cant ask for more than 1 thing in a day. That would give way more people a chance to get stuff. I have a buddy that doesnt want to be named, and we are talking now in a chat room and he just checked this thread out, he said the only thing keeping him from joining in is the fact that some people are just asking for everything that pops up as quick as its listed and people who might really need it never have a chance at it because they are not the ones hitting F5 or refresh over and over hoping for free stuff. He makes a great point.

I really thing setting it to 1 item a day would smooth things out and everyone would get more of a chance. And who could complain at this rule? where else do you have a shot at something every day?

Making it so only paid members can join i dont think that would be fair because the people that TRULY NEED stuff might not be able to afford the membership or they would buy what they need.

1 item a day seems very reasonable and practical, its not my thread but so many more people could benefit by this simple and fair rule.

Ok guys, I have a used Mora Bushcraft up for grabs. It's used, comes with the sheath. Needs some edge work, it was convexed...decided I hate convex edges....so I tried to put a new edge on it...fail. Anywhoo....I wan't this to go to someone who needs a fixed blade. I don't want it sitting in a dark corner somewhere...No one puts Mora in a corner. Here is the catch. You have to tell me what color my eyes are. Boom.

I'm guessing hazel eyes

Agreed. A very generous offer of an awesome knife. Just got my 0550BLK recently (bought it as a present to myself for getting into pharmacy school) and it's been in my pocket every day since then. I'm just itching to make it my own!

Nikki, girl your PM box is full :D

But to answer you question no not really and yes upsetting it is!

I think that is a great idea! :D

I like the 1 ask per day concept, makes sense to me and i agree it would be a simple way to restrict the asking for everything crowd

strippping them is half the fun. if it's a knife I may use for food prep ( my bk14) I strip it with chemicals and force a patina. if it's for wood processing only (bk91), I like letting the coating wear off on its own.

That's what I tell my wife. Minus the patina part!

Jim- I hate that rabbits show! (And I just caught the plunger episode the other day when one of our daughters was home sick)

A basic membership is $10 per year I believe, gold being $20. I think everyone can afford that. However Cutter has been one of the most generous and he's not a paying member. Someone aught to get that guy a membership! If someone tells me how to do it I'll gift him one.

I do agree with the claiming one item per day, but I strongly believe we should also make a rule if you take, you should post something up to give within 24hrs. I think this will curb those that are just taking and not willing to give. I realize not all of us can afford to give like some others, but everyone can offer something. It's not a matter of what but the fact that you are contributing.
