The MASSIVE INCREDIBLE PAY IT FORWARD THREAD - PART DEUX!

This is the problem and why people are making suggestions to govern this somewhat. Not everyone is giving, some are just taking. I think what you've done is absolutely awesome and I've had a great time giving and receiving, but when there are those who take and not give, that ruins the spirit for alot of us. We delt with for some time before speaking up. I'd be glad to start the new thread with the guidelines others and myself have suggested. We would hate to lose your participation.:grumpy:

I have not been active in this thread because at some point i knew someone would yell foul.

My thoughts and what I believe are the thoughts of the OP is that this thread is a thread to giveaway stuff to people who want it and if they decide to pay it forward good and if not its just bad karma.

The person giving away doesn't expect stuff in return but gives away because it makes them happy to do so. I think many people are thinking this is just a thread to say I have this stuff I'm willing to get rid of... what do you have? (in other words trading) pay it forward isn't trading!

I DO think its crap when someone comes in who hasn't given anything but puts in requests for things they want (that is just someone taking advantage of the thread).

however the idea is to first get then pay it forward, so people who haven't given yet may still do it.

This stuff will come with the territory of the thread and if you want to change the title then you can regulate the thread but as I see it now people are just folowing the nature of the thread or receiving bad karma :)

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!!!
Government almost always fails. Self governing works well. Here is a simple solution. You think someone is unfairly getting grabby. Then refuse that person in a personal message. Don't want to shame them publicaly...or however you spell that......then request all of your "I'll take its" go directly to your email or personal box. It's as simple as that.
You start litigating, the effectiveness and potency of this thread is lost. Just like no ground fires in Big Bend....oh yeah..burn ban...whatever, you get it.

Would you give still if someone was too broke to give back? What about a membership? I just re-upped my Gold because this group of people of BF is an important part of what gets me through on my roughest days. I could barely afford to. If I couldn't, I would be devastated. This thread has offered some others possibly in my boat the chance to be Gold for the first time.

If there are to more votes for a new thread with your rules, I'll graciously bow out and close the thread. No offense taken. This has been amazing, and I have no regrets.

I'll hang in the background and see.

Yeah, ive got to agree. I dont really like the more rules and hey lets do contests thing that this thread has fallen to. It used to be about paying forward now......it seems to be more about controlling just how much people get.

For the record, i couldnt care less how much people get, whether its 1 knife or 10 items. The whole freakin point of this thread was to give freely stuff that you wanted to spread some goodwill, now people seem to want to screw that up.

And you know what? Some people just dont have a lot to give right now, i know im not rich right now. And i greatly enjoy the stuff ive gotten, the Machax is very cool and the Lightning is the first of my guess many OTF knives. The CRKT was given to my girlfriend who loves it. I hope the Fuzz and machetes ive given bring some happiness because thats the point of the thread, or what it at least started with.

Your thread is good, your concept is incredibly generous. Let it ride and if certain folks start taking everything, I guess it will die off naturally. If not and the spirit of it takes over, then we're all better off.

I'm with Jim here...I think there are ways around the very few issues we are having around here. They are the exception and not the rule. I think that if you start regulating something like this, the entire point of it, and the fun of it, is gone. If someone is being clearly selfish and unethical, then people will know and skip over them when it comes time to give their item to someone who called it, even if that jerk was first.

I agree.

I'm against the rules personally. I personally have not met anyone on the forum or know of anyone's background or current financial situation. I think in the spirit of just plain giving someone might not have the opportunity as Jim said to give more and this might be their only opportunity to receive a few items. I think everyone should just carry on as they have on these past few threads. If someone really has an issue with someone taking too much and not giving perhaps they should take that into a private email session. That said I'm against singling out anyone in any type of public manner. Sometimes the treatment of strangers is the most tell tale indication of what a society is. I'm by all means not for freeloading either but one can't gather the backgrounds of folks over the internet.

Personally, I'm quite charmed by the generosity and overall good intent of these threads. There are folks on this thread who have given generously and it isn't because they're living a life of excess either.

Too late -- the spirit of this thread has been amplified and propelled more than I'm sure anyone could have imagined. This is a GREAT thread and has great people contributing to it. I don't think a change is necessary -- weed out the bad apples and pass the item to the next person in line. Not too difficult!!

Alright Cohorts, I have to get back to work, this thread is completely consuming. Jim, I will holler at you later. I'm curious to see where this goes. Peace out friends.

I'm as guilty of this as anyone, but I think what actually might kill this thread is if we let this get derailed to a discussion about the effectiveness of the thread and whether rules should be imposed. Too many bad vibes. I don't think the thread is going anywhere, so let's try to get back to the original point: Giving a lot, receiving what you'd like, and making great new friends in the process.

I'm all for self governing. In the previous thread, I've given away knives no-questions-asked just like many have done.
In this thread, I decided to mix it up a little by introducing a little game. I hope that was okay with everyone, and I hope that was still within the spirit of Jim's idea.

I'm gonna drop that strop on whoever gets 1000. I really don't use it enough to warrant it.

EDIT: if you don't need a strop, pass it on. People have been asking about one.

If everyone were to re-read the OP, then I don't think there would be issues...

I think all is well, lets move forward shall we? I think the following blade has been given 3 times now, but was originally mine so i have the pics. If you would like the orange rat 1 please email lionesser, not me as it is not in my possession. Lionesser will handle delivery. This is the Lost and Found rat that i think has been shipped across the entire country by now, someone please give this homeless knife a chance:
