• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

The Match Case Project - Updated periodically.

Finished the third - This project is done! I redid the cap on the original one (the prototype) and set a compass in all three. I finally got the knurling deep and even on the third - and it turned out great. I have the production down to about three hours.

What are you using to make those?

My old man does tool and die and usually runs a boring mill. I wonder if he could make something like that.

I am using a manual lathe and a mill (for the fob holes).

He could certainly make them - if you want the plans - let me know - I have made a CAD file that has all the dimension.

If it's something you could email I'd love it.

Very nice, looks much better witht he deep knurling.
Lots of work but I bet it was fun too. I should take that machining course someday.

Liam,

It looks better with the deep knurling - but it strikes matches better on the thin stuff. I was experimenting with depths and sizes. Matches strike best on this knurling at a depth of no greater than .0400 inches.

Okay - I need a life. ;)

TF, can you tell me the diameter of that compass your using and where you got them? I'm needing something like that for another project. Looks like 3/4" which is what I may end up having to use but if you know of a source for smaller (3/8-1/2") that would be ideal.

Wish I had the patience to try a project like this one. Those look great.

Thanks,
SDS

Hollow - check out the Aurora.

SDS - they are .778 wide .317 deep

BCB Button Compass and can be found on e-bay all over for about 3 bucks.

GREAT little button compasses - uses by the SAS in their PSK's.

The compass that would fit your bill is the Pyser button compass. Made from billett brass - they are AWESOME - but EXPENSIVE (about 40 bucks).
