The Mighty Mighty Moose! Post your mighty moose and provide insight to this pattern!

I'm still thinking of this pattern, but am on the fence yet. How does the equal end cigar feel in the hand? I'm used to having some curves. I'm not afraid of a big folder and actually prefer it for alot of things. I carry a 42 sometimes, but could someone post a 54 moose pic with another knife for reference? I have a 42 and a 48, and a few 72, 15, and 85s. Just need a point of reference to help push me over the edge;)

Bump with 3 of the 5 reasons I did not get a Moose last month! :D

Imperial Frontier Powder Horn 44 series.

I remain optimistic... ;)

Well Woodrow, SAK Guy does indeed need to get his Moose act together - but I completely sympathize in that his failures are pretty doggone nice! OH

Thank you my friend! I try very hard to make all my failures exceptional ones!! :D

Sorry, I didn't get this sooner:

From left to right:

Case Peanut - 2 7/8" closed
Northfield 26 Watchpocket Sunfish - 3" closed
GEC 33 Conductor - 3 1/4" closed
Case Medium Stockman - 3 1/2" closed
Victorinox Pioneer - 3 1/2" closed
Tidioute 54 Moose - 4" closed
Case 6375 Large Stockman - 4 1/4" closed

Thanks Woodrow! Actually, I carry a Pioneer everyday, so I do know what an equal end feels like. The 54 doesn't seem that much bigger either. I got a KSF pocket sheath for my birthday and it helps hide the size of any knife so I just might pull the trigger. I love jigged bone AND ebony, so the choice is hard. The ebony seems more of the classic look for tjis type knife though. True to the Nessmuk theme, huh? Is yours a nailbreaker?

It is a srtong pull. It loosened up some, but is strong.

I would imagine you could grab a bit more of the blade than just the nail knick on the moose over the big jack to help you open it up though. Don't go looking for excuses not to get one SAK! I see Latham is already out of the wormwood chestnut, but KSF doesn't really look like they are moving alot of the mooses at all. What, too big, too strong a pull?

I am looking for a new knife, the itch must be scratched, and these moose knives look pretty tempting. Are they actually practical as an edc/whittlng knife? (I know the blades aren't traditional whittling profiles but if a knife is in my pocket it is going to be whittled with).
Any way, if you guys reckon they're good as an edc pattern I think I'll pull the trigger on a GEC, if not I will wait till something else pops up and screams "buy me"
Cheers,
James.

Cheers Woodrow:thumbup: Whittling will be done with any knife in my pocket so from that perspective it doesn't really matter, I love my TC barlow's clip blade for rough out when whittling so I shouldn't have any troubles there. The stockman seems to get a lot of love here for edc but I am more of a two blade guy and the spear and clip are my two favourite blade shapes so the moose is looking like a go.

Student, you may want to get your hands on a few to compare before you buy. My Case Moose pattern knives (a 1972 and a 2006) both have spring tension that open on a "6" on the 1 - 10 scale. My Winchester BGC is a strong "8" on the Clip master blade (a little strong) and a "7" on the Spear (the Spear is okay on the pull). My new AAPK SFO GEC 54 is at least a "9" on both blades. I don't even mess with the GEC anymore, it is back in the tube while I decide whether to keep it or not - I've held onto it so far because it is the finest looking and best fitted of my four Moose knives. The Winchester is a recent trade; I have to watch carefully not to get cut with the Clip blade, I carry it because I like the looks of the frame style. The two Case I own have good pulls for my hands and suit my preference - I would consider the two of them the most practical users I own of the four. OH

OH, if you like that GEC, contact Chris at GEC. She will take care of you.

+1 on GEC customer service. They may take a week or so, but they can get you backthe knife the way you want it. No sense having a knife like that around if you're not happy with it!

Woodrow and Willie, thank you for the contact name at GEC - I do need to send it back for adjustment as It is by far the nicest example of a Moose I own - the blood red bone handles would be a good reason to own it if nothing else, but the blade swedging is simply classic - all in all a beautiful knife. OH
Ps Not my photo - this is a GEC publicity shot (I haven't even taken my own picture yet).

I love those swedges, but the only covers that call to me are the ones on the Tidioutes. A stag might be nice to own one day, but I am having a hard enough time parting with $90 right now for maybe an ebony! Great looking knife!!!
