The Mighty Pequena

Thank you very much for chipping in Fausto, it seemed very strange to be discussing Sardinia without you :)

Great write up Jack and thanks for the historical review to you and Fausto. The leaf shape blade is very functional and can be found in many different areas. I had examples of fix blade knives with similar shape from Thailand, Myanmar, China and Africa.

Thanks Mike :)

This little guy showed up in the mail yesterday. It arrived in a nice foam lined plastic case, which was a pleasant surprise. The fit and finish is very nice, although the closed blade centering is poor. No matter, though, as this is definitely going to be a User. It came decently sharp, and took a very nice edge with a few swipes on a dmt fine stone. The backspring os definitely strong. I flushed out the joint and oiled it, which made it smoother, but still very stout.

All in all, I'd say it's quite a lot of knife for the money. I'm going to carry it the next few days and see how it does. I think it'll be mote than acceptable. :)

Great stuff Dan, hope you'll get along well together

Oh I believe we will get along just fine. :) I'm sort of thinking I might not be able to carry this one during the winter when my arthritis acts up the most, but we shall see. The spring may well ease up a bit with more use. Aww shucks, I'll have to cut as much as I can with this!

That'll be interesting to see Dan, hope it'll be OK. I have just a little arthritis myself, but the pull on mine I don't find so strong. Maybe it's eased a bit with all the use its been getting, maybe it wasn't all that strong to begin with, or maybe it just feels light compared to the clasp knives I've been handling! :D

Since this is one of the other protagonists, I thought it appropriate to post a picture here. This was also gifted to me by Scruffuk.

I saw you using this knife in the 'workout' thread over here and it got me interested in it. Googled a bit and found this topic to be on page 1 in the traditional forum :'). I don't get it how I overlooked it but oh well.
I'd like to thank you for the nice and detailed description of the blade. It got me interested in getting one. However, since I just bought that Douk-Douk, a Higonokami and a Camillus TL29... I'll just put it on my list for new, next to the Mercator and Case sodbuster.
I'm pretty fond of leaf shaped blades, I found them performing very well in two of my Spyderco Delica blades. High flat grind, that's definitely a plus. Thanks for showing this Jack, it's definitely on my list now. Like you I've grown fond of a simple but functional workman's blade. Bladelength similar to that of an Opinel n°7 or maybe even an 8 that's pretty much ideal for me. Thanks for sharing, it was well worth the read.

Good to see your new knife on 'the stump' Gev

was carrying the pequena the other day and was thinking that it has a nice amount of heft for its size.
