The Mini Thread (Grip, Presidio, Stryker, etc)

How much would my knife weigh if I added the G10 or Micarta scales?[/QUOTE]

* you can slightly tell the difference but in my opinion they give it that perfect little "heft" which makes the mini the perfect EDC. If you want t o keep the weight similar maybe try a carbon fiber....? I'm not sure, but am guessing that will keep the weight difference minimal. I definitely recommenf some sort of scale though. I'll never go back.

^ That's right. So IMO, they've 'fixed' an 'issue' that wasn't an issue to begin with. Again, I don't dislike the knife, I just feel as though it could be better.

I think "fixed" is the wrong word. Doug Ritter had a different design in mind and he approached Benchmade and Mel Pardue about it. The Ritter version isn't something that is "better" than the original offering it's just a different flavor. I just purchased one of the 556 because I like both. :)

I'm a fan of the minis. Currently giving my 707 some love this week, trying out a deep carry clip on it and loving it so far (the deep carry clip would be awesome in black oxide).

The mini Ritter is probably my top EDC, all-around, everything folder of all time, all things considered. I've got some worn micarta DOAT scales waiting for me at the house today, so I'll try to post how they look later on after they're installed. The stock scales are good enough for me, but I've just wanted to try something a little different and see how it feels. If I dislike them, you'll see them up for sale here. Though I don't need it, I wonder if BM would swap my S30V blade for the M390 so I can get a taste of that.

I've tried to dig the 707 a couple of times. Just had one recently. I just can't get into them; the ergo's on the mini are better for my hand. Still a fantastic knife though; just not for me.

Looking forward to seeing pics. I may be interested in the Micarta scales.

If you send them the knife and $30 bucks they will. :)

Thanks for contributing so far guys! I still love my Ritter m390 Mini-Grip.

I'm not sure about micarta but........

Factory scales - 2.68 oz
G10 scales (w/3 standoffs)- 3.0 oz
CF scales (w/2 standoffs) - 2.8 oz

I love the minis and these are my four. Two of them wear custom scales.

The Mini-Grip has risen to fame in my pocket. I edc the Ritter when i'm in jeans. I just purchased a standard to EDC in slacks/khakis. I'll put a deep carry clip on it so it goes in and out of the pocket nicely. I have a split arrow on the Ritter. It just doesn't work as well with my khakis.

Calling is what I've done. I've read numerous posts stating they Benchmade customer service does not do as good a job responding to email.

Emails are always hit or miss for me. Ask someone else and they'll disagree. I always get the fastest response by dialing their 800-800-7427 number.

I've had emails take some time. Calling is definitely the faster way.

Here is a few pics of my mini-grip Doug Ritter M390 with a set of DOAT natural micarta scales which has become my new EDC but so has my 531, surprisingly great little knife. I forgot to mention the dark area at the front of my knife is from a little lube from recent break down/cleaning, a little 320 grit sand paper with very light pressure will remove all discoloration which it also gets from your hands natural oil, looks used and worn.

As long as I can remember I've bought the knives my dad has carried. Used to buy him Old Timers or a Case but then I got my first speed safe Kershaw and he thought it was handy so I got him one for Father's day. He carried that knife for the past 7 years and told me he was ready to get a new knife to carry. I bought him a Benchmade for Father's day and he loved it. Here it is with my Sebenza I was carrying at the time. He tried the deep carry for a while but prefers the split arrow these days.
