The most exotic steel Kershaw has ever worked with?

^Man I think that tip looks like it will work great for a screwdriver too! :D :P

Something tells me it will be released by two companies, Kershaw/ZT and Microtech. I kid, I kid. We all know the Microtech version will be less sexy and thrice the price.

That SG2 in the JYD is awesome stuff!!!

I wonder if the new stuff is CPM REX-121? That would be SWEET!!!
This is based on no particular knowledge [meaning I'm likely totally full of $h!t], but I believe KAI would continue their relationships with their Swedish steel suppliers rather than forge/reforge new relationships with
Niagra/Crucible. Uddeholm has a branch office just up the interstate in Kent WA (about 2.5 hr drive). K390 is their new super tool steel that I believe is similar to REX-121. I haven't seen any production companies using it but a few custom makers have been trying it out. It is being shipped in to the port of Seattle and stocked here on the west coast. I don't believe it is a true stainless so if I'm at all on the mark I expect it would be DLC coated or come as an edge steel on a composite the way D2 has been used. I believe it is difficult to work, eating as many belts in the grinding equal to the cost of the steel, but KAI has a history of doing amazing things. There was/is talk of a Spyderco Mule sprint in K390 that seems not to have materialized yet. This would put Kershaw as first to market with fancy ass steel like they were with Elmax which also had a reputation of being hard to work. I'm thinking if I'm totally off on it being part of a new knife design, that we'll at least see it or a similar steel used in a DLC coated blade for the 0560 line.

--[edit]Nevermind all that. Thomas said no K390 while I was still typing.. hmm.. I'm stumped. I still would guess it will be something form Uddeholm, but maybe something Uddeholm has yet to announce.

My guesses would be something new from either Hitachi, Carpenter, Bohler:Uddeholm, or Sandvik. But I'm just pulling this out of "thin-air".

I wonder if Thomas could comment on the blade grind, like just rounded belly, recurve, tanto, hawkbill, rampage? Hollow, flat, both?

I think it would be hard to guess what grade new steel they will be using, we all have to get creative and do some research. Its always fun guessing though.

Why not just wait a month [blade] for all these answers to come to fruition [well I assume a lot of them will anyway] :p. We may not know even if someone guesses it lol.

On the side note thats interesting oreganknifenerd. I didn't know such beastly stuff was being ported 15 mins from my home [a little north of downtown Seattle] :p lol I may have to see if I can check these places out one of these days, and see if they have samples to check out/pre-made knives.

Would be awesome to do another composite with Damascus like the 0777 but more affordable

i know this isnt going to happen and i know its not even practical but for some reason i keep thinking about ZT making a blade out of titanium.
like i said not practical and not going to happen but im an engineering student, i think about stuff like that alot. lol
