The MountainManDu Journey.

Too cool! I've a feeling you'll be seeing some more needing the 'Worldwood Treatment.' :)

Yep!! Looks sweet and performs better.. Plus his prices ROCK!! Total win!

Changed the thread title as well. Since this will likely be the thread i keep posting my reviews/findings in the new title makes it more accurate and easier to reference.

Great video, showing the before and after results in the wood; kinda surprised the MountainManDu was not chopping better on that board from the factory. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the thread mate....!!!! I like the "FBM Look" the MMD has from new, but your regrind looks great !!!!!! Like the Choppy !!!

Thanks fellas!!

And yep Andy... I wanted the MMD to match my choppy :D I really like the 2 tone look, and it keeps the majority of the knife away from the elements to avoid oxidation, yet no coating on the bevel eliminates the friction you get sometimes with the thick coatings, and did i mention i just like how it looks :D LOL

Received the knife back, yesterday i believe, been so busy the days are blurring together LMAO

She looks AWESOME, and came back just as sharp as i imagined. Thanks again Josh. She will be getting a full workout in about 8 days... Im counting the hours to get out in the woods again HAHA!!

Keep us posted man! Looking forward to hearing how it goes... If it fails now I'll look like a total goob lol

She held up great and got a nice workout!!

I didnt think to take many working pictures... But then again i was doing more work on the bottle of rum than with knives LOL But ill share what i got......

Thats all folks!!

Ill get a couple pics up of the edge this evening... I didnt notice any damage though... But did get some oxidation forming... It didnt rain, wasnt even a lot of dew in the morning, and she was spotless before the trip... Both the MMD and Chopweiler were left out on a log overnight (a log right beside me) but only the MMD formed oxidation. Then again i have treated the choppy with eezox and have yet to treat the MMD.

But as far as performance and edge durability goes she gets a big A+!!

Cool stuff WW!
Looks like you had fun, and I bet Neko had his share of excitement too.

Really like the look of that RW as well

Lovin' the two-tone theme, even the RW fits in with that hamon. Looks like the MMD BITES! And I mean that in the best way possible ;) :D

Thanks fellas. It was a great, relaxing, night!! Going back out in 2 weeks and will get a little more time out this time. Looking forward to it!!

The MMD is an awesome performer now. I was taking 2-3 inchers in single swings. Like carrots.

I forgot the edge pictures last night. Sorry about that. I was sleep by 930pm... And anyone who knows me knows i dont sleep much... So i was definitely worn out and a bit hung over hehe

Ill get them up in a few. Have to clean the blades up today so ill remember to snap a couple shots in the process!!

Edge still looks great. It will also still slice printer paper... Does "snag" a little in a few spots but not enough to tear the paper. Im happy. I expected worse... I did beat on it pretty good, granted i probably i only honestly spent 30 minutes or so testing it but in that time i wasnt friendly about it HAHA. I went through a few knotty pieces with force, Battoned aggressively as well. I now have plenty of faith the edge will hold up and perform the way i like it to!

Kind of a funny side story.... We found a fell tree that was hard as hell, my wife wanted to try the kukri out on it.. She was beating on the tree for a few minutes and then dropped the knife. I asked whats wrong? She says it keeps bouncing off the wood... SO i walked over grabbed the kuk and took a couple swings. I could get it to bite, kuks require a little more technique chopping, but it still wasnt biting very deep and did like to try and bounce off if you came straight down. So i grabbed the MMD, and took a good swing... We started cracking up, the MMD sunk straight in deep with no issue. My wife said "$h!t, thats the one i want" ....I said, "Yea, me too" haha!!

The SR77 did oxidize a bit though. But it was a quick clean-up! Now for pics.

A little cut while flitzing the MMD. Didnt know i was cut until i seen the blood. The best kind of cuts!! Testament to the edge, even after being beaten on, chopping and batoning.

Flitz and a little elbow grease... Back to beautiful!!

I wouldn't have even thought about flitz... cleaned up nice ;)

Glad it held up for ya man! I wasn't gentle on it either hehe.

What part of the blade was it you cut yourself on? More towards the tip or heel?

Oh i should buy stock in Flitz. Love the stuff. Now that i got her back clean ill apply some eezox so she doesnt rust as quickly. Eezox is pretty awesome as well!!

Well, I dont wanna lie to ya LOL Im honestly not sure what part of the edge i cut myself on.. I really didnt feel the cut happen and was working the full blade. But it didnt go deep, and was a very clean cut.

I appreciate the work on this brother, she is definitely good to go now :D

Good stuff here, I would wager that SR-77 being a jack hammer bit steel would prefer a rather obtuse geometry to avoid taking deformations. Perhaps regrinding the primary a bit more at the same angle and increasing the edge angle a bit would allow for similar bite without the tiny dings you're still getting?

Now that i got her back clean ill apply some eezox so she doesnt rust as quickly. Eezox is pretty awesome as well!!

Eezox is great stuff, great corrosion resistance when applied correctly yet does not wipe off....

I didnt notice any visual dings this time. In a couple pictures it may appear that way due to corrosion, dirt etc. But i just double checked now that its clean and dont see any dings at all. Granted its not as sharp as before being beaten on... But in my opinion the edge did great with this geometry. S7 is known for being tough as hell but not being great in edge holding... But personally i think it did wonderfully this go around.

And yea brother Eezox ROCKS!! Around here, with me, oxidation just laughs at mineral oil. Doesnt last long at all. I got some raw 52100 steel in back in October or November last year. Not heat treated or anything. Treated it with eezox and left it in my damp basement this entire time... Its still down there... Looking GREAT. And at this exact minute my basement is flooded, happens every time we get a good rain, the steel only sits about 18" above the water.... Still sitting pretty. I have had knives form oxidation being left down there for barely 48 hours.. Heat treated and finished knives. Everything i treat with Eezox last months.
