The Mountian Bike Thread..

Damn cool! Gotta love it when your girl shares some of the same interests. Mounted her cygolite on it and we were just riding on the docks. She is smiling ear to ear. Mission complete.

Thanks J. I figured out that you can email pics to photobucket accounts.

How crappy does the quality look?

I couldn't stand seeing my tube through my tire so I got some new rubber. They are only 2.0 vs my 2.1. The Nevegals only come in 2.2 so they would not have cleared on the rear of my bike. Hopefully the Armadillo armor and heavier side walls help with rips in the woods.

Notice anything Beanbag??? This trial is for you bud.

I got an extra inch on each side. I made sure to move my shifters/brake levers out exactly an inch.

Moving the grips that were cemented on from 10 years of mud migrating under them was harder then I expected.

I like the way it looks much better. I will get a chance to test it out this weekend in the woods.

I was taught that you measure the distance between your hands when you raise them straight up from your sides (easier if you are holding a broomstick) and cut your handlebars to that length.

Hmm... lets see. Looks like you put a bigger flag on the back? That should vastly improve performance.

Seriously though dude, that looks so much better. Nice and clean.

Make sure to give it a good test and muscle it up some techy hills and over some logs and stuff.

I'll be here waiting for the results.:D

Okay squish, I just did that and pinky to pinky is 31". My bar is only 24".

Thanks beenbag, and nope same flag :p

I have better then average upper body strength, but last time out I actually found myself using almost all of my strength on some really tough inclines to maneuver. It was towards the end of about a 20 mile ride in the woods, but either way, I figured the leverage couldn't hurt.

I also paid close attention to when I used my bar ends. I didn't the entire time in the woods. A little on the road just to relax in a different position, and once to fly up and across and open field.

I don't think I will miss them. Either way I will let you know how this weekend turns out :)

The maiden voyage for my girls bike in the trails. The first ride for my new tires and no bar ends.

My girl did amazing and was able to do so much that she couldn't on her mountain hybrid bike.

As for me, well Beanbag, TOO MUCH LEVERAGE at first. I just wasn't used to using so much less upper body strength. Who would have though such a small change would have made it so much easier. I miss the bar ends for a few reasons. It does feel easier to maneuver without them.

The tires at 35 PSI had less cushy feel then my old tires at 40. After about an hour they softened up a little. The conditions today were muddy even in the dry spots. So we stayed to those areas. The Captain's didn't make me lose it anywhere but the Motoraptors would have surely dominated these on real trails.

Going again this weekend and will give a better overall reaction.

To add, the tires roll very smooth on the road and are generally smoother and faster, but thats the only advantage I am seeing as of now :)

My bike is on the way. I can't wait. Prob sell my current one in the spring. Wanted something a bit more durable. Not that my Ellsworth is frail. I just have broke frames like it in the past. Doing mild freeride who knows I might just keep em both. The new (used) bike only weighs 3 pounds more. But its just frame weight rotating weight should be very much the same

Cool J.
Did you got the one you were looking for?
I google that thing the other day, crazy cool.
Dont know if you can get them in Europe.

That's awesome J! I can't wait to see pics of it once you get it. It sounds like its going to be a freakin' machine!
