The question has been asked.....didn't see an answer yet.

Will the new 124 have a real stamp or the new engraving?

I really would like to get a couple of these!! Maybe more than just a couple.

wellll.... if'n ya did not poke at Joe so much fer things not his falt or doing
he might have come on line to answer ya as to that !!!
but .. my guess is it will be a real stamped tang... not lazered
but .. guess we have to hope joe will give us a clue ... some time i guess
if not .. will be able to tell when they is in the stores !!!
wander if wall y will pick up on them ?

Then again......maybe nobody knows yet?

Has blade one been started?

These things does take time.

:)

By the way.....I never said ANYTHING was Joe's fault--he has confided to us on this forum that he does not get to decide if things are stamped or engraved.....and said he likes stamps better anyway.

Oh......and Wally will not pick up on them. Too expensive for the Wally customers. They like the Winchester Bowie for $19.95 or so.

I suspect this 124 will be a very limited run.

From what has already been said on this forum, that would be the case. I believe the term was "for 2012 only".

That came from Joe awhile back.

I heard the suggested retail was going to be around that price too. I spoke to our specials manager about it today and he told me it is only being offered in this configuration for 2012. It is supposed to be stamped with the 2012 date code which, as a collector, I like. When they were developing this project, I supplied them with various old 124's, plus parts and pieces, so that it would be close to the originals from pre-early 80's. I havent been able to get close to one yet, but since our specials manager built some of those older 124's in your collections, I am confident that he got it right!

Problem is, "Stamped" has become sort of a generic for "it has a mark on it."

These days it's questionable as to whether that means an actual stamp or some shoddy machine engraving.

yuowser mowser ... will have to waite to see what we get!!
thin i wants one... yup ... i do wants one
adn joe calls stamps stamps unless de is "marked"

Joe said it "is supposed to be." That shows his confidence.

When dealing with Buck it's probably a fifty-fifty chance when they say "supposed to be." Often something unexpected happens at the last minute.

I'll wait 'til I see one. At that price there will be plenty available anyway.

That he does. He told me a couple of days ago that there were no plans afoot as far as he is aware of to change the STAMPING on CS knives using the 420HC blades to ENGRAVING because there was no need to. They have determined that was necessary or at least prudent to do so on the S30V blades and that was the reason it was done on them. There's also no plans for the "Designers Choice" stamp to go away either. I suspect the reason it isn't on the S30V blades is because it was placed where the S30V stamp or now, the engraving, is.

Larry Oden said that he expects to see the 124's with either three line STAMPS or at least the custom shop STAMP.

Sounds like nobody knows for sure WHAT to expect yet. Everybody's guessing.

I'm hoping for a Buck Custom stamp with anvil on it.

Considering the history of Buck-onomics, I'd wager that buying new stamps for a small 2012 run of 124s would be seen as flagrant, crazy and irresponsible spending.

:)

These will be marked the way Buck wants them to be. You can buy one or not and in the end they will sell them all. It's just awesome that these will be full tang versions!!!!! I could give a rats Axx how they are marked. Thank you Buck for putting out another issue of an old classic!

Amen jb!

Good post JB!!

Until some here started all this personal preference stuff and denigrating Buick about markings, I never gave it a thought, or cared one way or tother, and still don't. It is what it is and will go on collecting, buying, without a 2nd thought about it.

Since I only have one 124, maybe it is time for another.

Nonetheless, a lot of people DO care about markings and will be watching this with interest to see how it turns out.

The recent chipflint 124 with the running horse DID have a nice Custom stamp with anvil.

:)

Yep. Would I prefer a stamp over an etch or engraving? Yes, but that won't determine whether or not I buy one or two (I've already ordered one). If those folks that are so down on the engraving care more about the way they are marked than the knife itself don't buy one because of that, GOOD! That will leave just that many more for those who, as jb so eloquently put it, "don't give a rat's axx".

Stamped or engraved is not a concern of mine...hoping they issue the new ones with the same handle length as the old ones is..I dont buy new Buck straight blades since they altered the length.I have 2 of these on order.

Has there been any hints about blade steel and handle materials?
Those 70's full tang 124 are the best. I never warmed up to the later 7/8ths versions.

The catalog states 420HC and Black Micarta. I have the stag version that doesn't have the full tang but has the 119/120 size handle. I don't like it much.
