The New 124 for 2012

I would like to get a new 124 or have one of the nice ones I had and sold over the years.

Oh well, at least someone else is enjpying them!

Other than it had been discontinued, what is liked about the 124 over the 119 or 120?

What?.....st8yd, if you have to ask the 124 is not the knife for you....LOL.

As a kid looking into the knife case, the 119 & 120 were cool. But, the 124 was a must have. sorry I can't put into words any better than that;).

Wow ScottK,

Those 124's are the 124's of any collectors dreams! Wish I was the one you sold them too;)

Jim Bowie, at the Sandbar Fight, having been shot several times and run thru with a sword cane reached up with his knife and gutted the fellow who was trying to pull his sword cane out of Bowie's torso. "Three Roads to the Alamo." Author, William C. Davis. Bowie's knife, although no concensus exits as to its exact appearance is, to me, the Buck 124. The stuff of American legend.

So uh, your say'n your still a kid? LOL

I have never held one, but I'm a more practical type. So I was curious what others attraction was, to help me see why I might need one ;-)
My perception as follows.
The 119 is a bit shorter but the blade is not nearly as broad, so it appears to be a more practical user.
The 120 is longer with the same width blade as a 119 and appears it would be easy to reach in and stick a good size pig in the heart.

Yeah, I favor the better balance of the 120.

The 124 handles like a club.....just really short and thick and heavy.

Good for digging, though.

And a real Bowie type knife should display a good clip on the blade.

;)

Yep still a kid at heart, the differance of a kid and a man is the cost of his toys.....LOL;). The kid part must be why I have more than one knife, heck I can only use one knife at a time. That is some food for thought, anyone want to buy a knife?

The 120 is to thin for sticking a wild pig. That is why they made the 651.....now that is a "Pig Sticker"!

For me, it's not a matter of needing, it's simply about wanting! ;) I just like the looks of the 124 better than the others, so I have to have them!

On the practical side, I can't help but believe that the 124 is a more sturdy and break proof knife with the full tang than the 119's and 120's.

Wow, ScottK... what beautiful 124s you had! Seriously... why did you say goodbye to them? I know interests change... and I've been chastised myself elsewhere for selling a few S&W revolvers. But... still - wow!

Phooey on Sheryl Crow's words. Like the first word my grandmonster learned - as he raisied one hand high opening and closing it, holding on to the playpen rail with the other, "Want! Want!" is what I say when I see a 124. At 63, I am still a 'kid'.

Stainz

PS Now 13+, 'want' is still a large part of that grandmonster's vocabulary.

Scott,
The middle knife...mastodon? Oh my gosh, I think I'm in love!
(PLEASE dont tell me Leroy made it though, I'd never hear the end of it!) :)

st8yd, I am both a collector and a user. The user side of me puts a standard 102 and a Paklite in my hunting pack since I hunt on foot miles from the road and I try to save the weight for food/hydration. I can break down an elk/bear/deer with those 2 knives. I've never hunted hogs with a knife but if I had to, I'd pick the 120 just because it is longer and I'm guessing that proper "shot placement" with a knife is hard during hand to hoof combat with an angry pig.
The collector side of me hides new purchases of knives from my wife because she has basically the same taste in knives that I do. She will flat out take them from me!
Neither of us will ever use them but they are fun to talk about.

Scott, sweet 124s you had there at one time.... So who made the middle one... Do you have any good pictures of the handle of that one... I would love to see some more pics of it, if you have any... Thanks... ITE ...

The knife is the bomb. The sheath, with the flashlight/steel/spark rod holder, is terrific.

Hello,

I didn't mean to hijack the thread...thanks for all of the comments on the 124's I owned. Take this advice from me, I thought my tastes had changed and went off chasing the latest & greatest tacticals only to realize that was not me. So it's back to what I like! I'll try do dig up some more pix of the custom 124, Joe that was a custom shop 124...
