The New 124 for 2012

I want my new 124 to have a tang stamp inlaid with real purty gold and a rich-looking ivory micarta handle... Leroy, where for art thou?

Look, you thoughtless so and sos, my Mom only lets me buy two of any new knife and you are pushing my ability to control my spending on this item with each new post.

I'm going to need straw purchasers to come forward... Wife is OOT, kids won't take my calls and cat ran off a while ago. Never thought I'd need a friend. Hmmmmmmm. Huh.

Did anybody ever find out why it says the blade is 6 1/4"?

Just more poor proofreading or did they really change the blade length?

That goes with the 11+" OAL. That's ~ a half inch longer, both dimensions, than a 119 - considerably heavier, however. A phenolic handle may be a bit lighter than the 124's micarta handle. I've never seen a 124 - that size is a shock, however. How is the thickness? The 119 is .175". Still, a neat addition - and none too soon.

I just checked out a couple of mine. The three line micarta handled one has a blade length of 6 5/8" with an OAL of 11 3/4". The wood handled three line has a blade length of 6 15/16" with an OAL of 12 3/32" (as close as these old eyes can see).

Larry Oden told me this morning (I ordered another one) that he's put in a second order for the new ones, but hasn't received any answer about when he would be getting them. He hasn't seen one yet himself, so he can't help with any details either.

I've always thought of them as (and heard that they were) 6 3/4 inches.

Don't know why they'd shorten this model by a half inch.

They seem to vary by year. I just located and measured my 1991 and it's measures 11 7/8" OAL with a 6 3/4" blade.

Thickness measured with a set of digital calipers at the guard:

3 line micarta-.181"

3 line wood---.176

1991---------.181

joe suipplyed parts for them to look at
the finger guard will be attached slightly difff
and will have a slighty diff shape
it will havea a DIE STAMPED tang mark
it is not know yet if it will be custom or std with year mark
so now all ya's got ta hollor on is if it will be reg tang stamp or custom....

Good news on the stamp, there Sir Dave of the 110.

We're gonna call this the "Incredible Shrinking 124" because they shrunk the blade by a full half inch.

Maybe call it the "Frontiersboy." Or the "123 and a half."
:D

Why does this happen? They give us back the good large handle but cut us back on the blade?

ya knows dey had the cera-mon-eral simatar . had the longest blade i knows of on a buck
did ya get ya selfe one? if not dont complain as ya had your chance!!

I dont want no 123 an a half.

I just wants me the entire 124 what is spos ta be!!!

:)

Here you go guys. The 124 on top is production representative (2012) except for the handle. The 124 below is from 95. They are Identical in length. Overall length is 11 7/8", blade length is 6 5/8", width is .180" The blade is also stamped not laser etched.

I likes it!!!

(But what exackly do he mean
by "Ekcep fer the hangle????")
That cud skare a person.

Top one: Handle looks like canvas Micarta that hasn't been fine polished.

Thanks Caleb, that should put this to rest. It's almost exactly the same OAL and is the same blade length as my original micarta one.

So much for the "incredible shrinking 124"!

I can't wait to get my two.

LOL! Saying the blade would be 6 1/4" was Bucks error--not mine.

If they'd quit making mistakes we could avoid all this unpleasantness.

:D

Thanks for tying up the loose ends, Heng Em!!

The only way that it will get any better for me is if it has the "Designer's Choice" stamp on the other side of the tang. :)
