The NEW Burger Exkelibur model!!!

Thanks for the review Marthinus. Just had to order one in CF. Looks like a real beauty!!!

Ordered it with kit, and 2 blades....one in D2 for hard use and another in N690 for when heading to coastal areas or wanting easy sharpening.

Can't wait for it to arrive next week!!!

Thanks for the review Marthinus. I just reread this thread and realized you were mugged. I'm sorry to hear that. Do you live in South Africa? I hear it's rough there.

Thanks for the awesome review! I have been really wanting one of these ever since your original thread about how Burger knives are made. Both very informative threads by the way. I think I'll have to order one of these myself very soon I've put if off long enough. I'll probably go for the original g10 model like your first EXK. Do you know if he will be making both models for the forseeable future or if he is phasing the old model out?

Also, Machaven, how much did he charge you for the extra blade if you don't mind me asking?

NEVERMIND: I spoke to the maker today and the extra blade is no longer an option. I think it is too time consuming to fit two blades exactly to one handle. In addition he has to fill other orders and get stock for BLADE in Atlanta. Now I have to choose one steel and that is difficult. It is probably better to have just one blade and not bother about "which steel to carry today"!

Oh thats a bummer, it was an extremely generous and time consuming option... You're probably right though it simplifies things to have just one blade.

Nevermind35: I really do not know if he will continue with the older model. I think he wants to push the new designs a bit more and to many models can become a problem since it is a family run business. Sending him an email is the best advice I can give you.

I did speak to him today but forgot to ask him that question. I was far to interested in hearing when I can replace my Large EXK and the D2 he just finished at HRC of 62 after 2 tempers.

A few taking the knife apart and cleaning. Really not that complicated.

Hi Marthinus, really sad to hear you got mugged man, and worse that they got so many good knives. We need to sort the crime out here in SA, it's such a beautiful place to live.

Thanks for posting, I am cutting up a piece of biltong with my EXK as I write this. I bought my EXK based on your last review and it is without a doubt the most used knife in my collection. The build quality is exceptional and that N690 is an awesoime steel, it sharpens up so easily and holds the edge pretty well.

Thanks for the kind words and I agree. We have a beautiful country with some issues to sort out. I am glad you are enjoying the knife.......mmmmm some biltong sounds good. Will get me some with a nice beer or whiskey for the big game this weekend!

I'm glad they made this new model easy to take apart and put back together. That's one of the things I love about some of CRK's folders. I also bought mine after seeing your review and I look forward to trying it out once it gets here. Thanks.

Wow...sorry about the mugging too. You mentioned it so casually I felt it must be a common occurance. They must have had a gun since you had the knives :(

Why is the crime so bad there? I thought SA was "Renewed" since the whole Apartheid thing.

sent you a message to keep the thread from going off topic.

Steelsnob.

I am very interested to hear your opinions when you receive you knife!

What a beauty! Got my Exk on Wednesday and was blown away by the quality of this little gem.
I got a blade in one of the new steel offerings, Panzer36. So far I've found it to be really hard steel and toothy after the diamond bench stone. Polished it this evening on the fine stones and followed up with some stropping. The steel takes a great edge with a lot of bite. The steel has a slightly grey colour and lovely grain.

Things that stand out for me on this knife:

1 Great Fit&Finish
2 beatiful blade shape...very useful
3 perfect ergonomics for my small hands
4 delightful to look at
5 holding it is pure tactile pleasure
6 design is exemplary
7 the blue anodised clip/liner
8 the robust stop pin (no screw here!)
9 easily stripped and cleaned
10 thin, high hollow ground blade...optimal cutting for my needs
11...just perfect!!!

Problems: I need one in camo G10, one with a D2 blade, a large EXk....

I can say that my Spyderholism is almost cured, my Para has lost it's place in my RFP and that I'm converting to Burgerism.

Another oustanding quality of the EXk is the rigidity and lockup of the knife. ROCK solid!

Some pictures...hopefully.
