The NEW Post Your Campsite/gear/knife/hiking/anything Outdoorsy Pic Thread!

Looking forward to your publication. Do post it here. Yes...a handle would look great. The clear epoxy scales with the teeth encapsulated is exactly waht i was thinking as well.Also, another idea would be to attach some to a leather sheath. So many ideas...so little time...lol

@HikingMano

A lot of those teeth are indeed very small, some of them are smaller than 1mm.
To find these, you take the material home, wash it on different screens with different widths (5mm-3mm-1mm-0.5mm), let it dry and then you have several storage boxes that look like this:

Then, you search through those kilos and kilos of material using this:

Not to mention, it takes a looooooong time before you've searched through everything. The problem is, that stuff keeps piling up in my working area:D.

Here are a few quick (and crappy) pictures of some of my drawers with shark teeth. (Yep, some)

BUT, back on topic now 'cause this isn't really outdoors anymore ;-)

Galeocerdoshark - By all means, fossil pictures do belong here. I'm an amateur paleontologist, too, so I like to see them.

Pictures from the weekend trip to Tony Grove in Cache National Forrest. If you don’t know about this spot check out the Forrest Service’s page about it.

To start with is a view we had from our picnic spot, with a little homey touch thrown in.

This picture is a sample of just how many flowers this area has. If you are like me and have minimal photographic ability, come here and nature will make you pictures look good.

Here is a close-up of a blossom. I don’t know what type of flower it is, but there were thousands of them.

If you are too manly to enjoy flowers, you can still enjoy the views of some rocky ledges.
TGRockyRidge.jpg

These are Douglas Fir cones, they are very distinctive due to the “mouse tail” features on them. If you are wondering, the Blue Bell and cones are lying as I found them.

One more Picture of the Bushlore. If you look closely you’ll see that it’s not just people that enjoy the flowers here.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I enjoyed taking them.

Got to admit, I've been somewhat lazy to post pictures lately , so here's a few from my week long trip in west central Alberta , Canada. Wolf Lake west.

Hey Thanks We had a great time. I usually go there once a year. We had very little rain and it wasn't too hot ....just right.

:)

I have been sneaking around this Forum since some time and now I thought it is time to show some pictures myself. Thanks to all of you who post great images and stories here, it's a very interesting place and I have learned a lot from you guys.:thumbup:

Bush here (Germany) is not like bush over there (USA/Canada), and the experience of an over-nighter is different here. This is actually not allowed here - kind of sad, because it truly was a great experience.

Nevertheless, a friend of mine and me headed out for a little over-nighter yesterday. We set up a little camping area and our hammocks, a small open fire (just for the comfort and the warmth) and a coal filled hole for baking our camp-made folded pizzas - man were they tasty! The pipes are handmade by my buddy who, being a professional gardener, also made the pipe tobacco himself. Fantastic smell and taste. It was very quiet at night, we only heard some barking foxes, some hogs running around and some hunters (probably shooting the hogs).

Hope you enjoy the pics!

New challenge...runs to invisible little vertical crimpers. I need a map.
An experienced climber made it look so easy:grumpy:

Back from trip, will post a few pics later.

Galeocerdoshark, please link your article when it gets published. I look forward to it! :thumbup: And the amount of work you put in...sifting, microscopy, sorting...prodigious!

Great pics everyone :thumbup: Lightleak, welcome!

@HM,

However the article is pretty much finished, it still needs to go through a lot of steps. It needs to be grammar checked, reviewed, allowed into the magazine, then published. Fieuw! It might even take more than a year starting now...

I've been out prospecting today, using literature dating back to the sxities. We've found the place were the fossil shark teeth should be hiding, but it's all covered in plants and debris at the moment. I'd like to go back and use a small drill to see where the fossiliferous layer might be hidden and if it's worth excavating. My guess is that it won't be worth the trouble, the site isn't that big and a small group of people have extensively searched that site in the past 10 years, digging up pretty much the entire layer. Too bad... Better luck next time I guess.

It was a nice environment though:

[...]

Right, it often takes a while between manuscript submission and epub/"article-in-press", let alone printing in the actual issue. Especially if you have reviewer questions to address.

Better luck with the next site :thumbup:

I'm going back later to redo this image, fix the focus. Still kinda cool in the meantime.
