The NEW Post Your Campsite/gear/knife/hiking/anything Outdoorsy Pic Thread!

Sometimes when you just can't get to paradise you just have to fake it.

Codger, nice! :D Fake it until you make it

Nice knife, Brian  Looks practical. Vinegar patina?

Mistwalker, what kind of wood is that?

My Cubscout and boy scout's first spoons and one I made while they worked on theirs. We need to work on it some more.

I just came home early so I could leave again in the morning to do a MTB trail. Yesterday, I visited Little River Falls, Martha's Falls, and went down into the canyon and followed the river back up for a little while, which involved some class 4 scrambling, then climbed up the side of the canyon to get out. Then I went up to DeSoto Falls, then down to DeSoto State Park and hiked a couple of miles down the DeSoto Scout Trail-the section I earlier said was now my favorite trail section in Alabama, and hiked back out in the dark. Drove back down to one of the backcountry sites, and camped there.
Today, I got up before daylight and drove into NW Georgia to Cloudland Canyon State Park. Did the West Rim Loop, Upper and Lower Waterfall trails, part of the Overlook Trail, and most of the Sitton's Gulch Trail("most" because the scenery was petering out, and it was already getting dark in the canyon). I'm in love with that trail, though. I could spend three days getting pics of all the cascades and waterfalls, and did spend the vast majority of my time off-trail. Sometimes way off the trail.

I have 654 pictures to go through, but here's a teaser.
See that waterfall across the canyon?

Here's what it looks like from just below the top :D

If they made a trail to it, it'd have to be a really long ladder...

So, yeah, my back is feeling a lot better this week.

My place in the woods. Forest on three sides. Lots of bears and cougars to keep us on our toes

Awesome! Welcome Jackfish  Doesn't look like you're having fun up there... nope, not one bit :D

Owen, :thumbup::thumbup:, as you know.

Cool. Thanks again for that reminder, earlier. I posted a thread rather than put all those pics here.

Added these to the thread, but will put them here for convenience, since they don't take up much room on the page.

Some got deleted by accident, and there were lots of dupes while I tried to get the settings right, but I took 872 pics in the last two days. I'm going to upload some pics, and do a thread about it, but it won't even scratch the surface. I'm not even sure where to begin.
I feel like I packed a week into today alone, and yesterday was pretty sweet, too.
This is from the Honey Creek Loop trail in Big South Fork National Park, which I did this(Wednesday) afternoon, after a great start to the day at nearby Pickett State Park.

You go up and down part of a canyon, and hike through woods, up and down slippery slopes covered with wet leaves over wet rocks and wet mud(everything was wet!). You follow ledges and clifflines, and streams, and go from the top of the canyon down, then back up to ladders that take you up a cliff to an overlook of the river, then all the way down to the river, and back up again through drainages and over boulders. There are hundreds of cascades, small waterfalls, and rock formations full of wild colors, several huge overhangs, and dozens of caves of varying size. They say it's 5.6 miles long, but to allow a minimum of 1 hour per mile. It's no joke, because it feels more like 20 than 5.6, and a good bit of it is slippery and dangerous. I've never seen anything like it.
The ladders must be newer ones, as they aren't "enclosed in wire" like the sign says, but the warning about not taking children is a good one. I don't know any adults I'd want to take through there, the way it is right now.
Perfect!:D

I'll throw some videos on here as I load them. May take awhile to go through and upload pics...
Tuesday afternoon I hiked to Needle Arch, Slave Falls, then Twin Arch, after which I had to hike out almost 5 miles in the dark. It was a lot of fun!

Natural Bridge at Pickett State Park Wednesday morning. I screwed up big time and snapped a bunch of quick pics, not realizing my camera was still in manual instead of aperture priority, with settings from viewing Hazard Cave that didn't match up very well with the sun that was starting to shine:(

May be late tonight before I can fool with the pics or many more videos, but here's a few quick teasers from Arch Lake at Pickett State Park first thing Wednesday morning.

Just received this cool little stocking stuffer, the Exotac Matchcap XL. Other than capacity I don't know how it is any better than the much cheaper K&M matchcase, but sometimes you just gotta indulge the gear queer.
