The NEW Post Your Campsite/gear/knife/hiking/anything Outdoorsy Pic Thread!

KDucky's Brother: WOW! Really enjoyed the photoseries. Those snowy pics are magnificent. That waterfall that froze is amazing. Thanks for sharing!

Owen: Great colours indeed. I love how the sun breaks through the trees and leaves. Great stuff.

Been slackin on my end with posting pics, so figured I'd throw a few up here from some of my recent trips. There will be too many pics for me to sit down and caption them all, so I hope you guys can just enjoy the pics without a running narrative :)

These were taken during a hike in Big Basin.

More to come from other outings later.

WOW! Those pics are awesome. It does look like the weahter is changing there too. Lot's of fog. Same thing on the other side of the pond.
Loved to see that worn bone you're holding in one of the pics. Lower jaw? Makes you think on how fast erosion can make something almost unrecognizable in a short period of time.

I went back over these pics this morn and man those really are some stunning pictures. Really intense how you played with light and contrast in some of them. Showing the weather changes, the times of day gives a great prespective on the trip. Man that looks like it was a great trip. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Chad

Beautiful trip/landscapes, HikingMano !

What kind of shelter/tarp is that?

Thanks lightleak! The tarp is a Mountain Laurel Designs Duomid, love that thing to death.

You'd be the man to tell me, GS, haha :) I was struck by how polished it was.

You are very much welcome, Chad! It makes the effort in posting worthwhile when folks like you enjoy them

Just saw this and thought I'd share.

I really can't describe Proenneke's expression here. Kind of like the "Mona Lisa" though should it really matter? (...in the best way possible that is...)

Lots of cool pics, Russell!

I wonder what did the deer in...it looks pretty fresh.

That rock in your hand looks like jade. I know there is jade to be found on the central coast, I didn't know there was any that far north.

Some of those cliff pics look like classic Franciscan stuff.

Oh yeah, it was fresh alright, and below the high tide line too. Our guess was deer or mountain lion, no tracks due to rocky beach.

There were some rocks that looked like it might have been jade, quite a bit actually. I brought one or two home for the lady, I'll try and snap some pics later for you rockhounds

Glad you enjoyed the pics, John! :)

Untamed, love Dick's cabin. Alone in the Wilderness is awesome

Wrecked about 8 times mountain biking some IMBA trails at Coldwater Mountain today, including going over the bars twice, becoming a treehugger, and having my first flat on the trail as a bonus. It was all, um..."good experience", I suppose:rolleyes:
The trails were mostly great, and all would have been in different conditions. Beautiful area, too. Being a novice and riding advanced to expert trails is getting really rough all of a sudden, though(still have a bunch of bruises from last week). Everything is buried under leaves in some trail sections, particularly the downhill ones. Sometimes there's over a foot of leaves, so the bike doesn't always go where it's told, and because it's so rocky, there are lots of hidden obstacles that get found the hard way. About to go soak in some Epsom salts, 'cause I've got to backpack the next couple days!
Started out taking cell phone pics, then remembered packing the camera...

I thought when I saw the trail name "Bomb Dog" that it must be the long, fast downhill section I'd read about, and indeed it was, but I didn't know how it got its name...

:( At least I had all my stuff in my new pack!

Oh, and I loved the rattlesnake warnings in some sections. Maybe I'll get some pics sometime!

Looks like total fun, Owen :) I like the "lower your saddle for more fun" followed by "caution snakes" :D That's a ton of leaves too...

Glad you didn't have any serious wrecks!

BaldTaco, miss seeing stuff from you, buddy!

Just thought I'd share some pics of my HPG Kit Bag and what I carry in it. It's more or less my PSK, sometimes things get taken out or I add things in (no always emergency geared, more for convenience of access, particularly when backpacking). I set it up such that I can easily transfer it all between different packs if I want to. I've been using this kit bag on most of my hikes and backpacking trips since I got it back in May and it has been excellent. From quick on-the-go map access to having the essentials on me when day hiking away from a base camp, this kit bag is just so damn useful

I'm just about to overhaul it to streamline and/or cull things a bit, now that I'm planning to do more trail running with an Ultimate Direction SJ Ultra Vest. I can fit it all in the vest right now, but I want to cut down and/or simplify a bit more to minimize weight and volume further. I want to have more room in the vest for an actual lunch or some layers for the GF if she's with me. My goal is to cut down enough that the resulting kit can be carried in the HPG Runner's or Recon kit. Then I can just swap the kit itself between the HPG Runner's/Recon and the SJ Vest depending on whether I'll be walking or running.

50ml conical with full size bic, trick candles, a few REI storm matches with striker
K&M Matchcase with REI stormproof matches and striker
Ziploc bag with smaller stuff.

Anyway, off to cull now, just wanted to share the current state before mixing things up :)
