I'd like to see how the ROBO mechanicsm compares to Kershaw's (or rather Ken Onion's) Speedsafe. Could we see more picts of the clip side, and closed as well? I thought I was finished with folders after the Buck/Mayo but now this! :D

It is unlike the Speed Safe. It's more predictable in the sense that you can feel just before the blade will fire...and when you close the knife, there is some "free travel" before the resistance of the spring takes over. With a big blade like the Aftermath, you want to have control over that big, sharp blade at all times! :)

I can't help but feel enthusiastic about this one :)

Who has pre-ordered, and from where?

Knowing my sceptic self though, I'll proabably sit on the fence until I've read a couple of reviews.

Sweet knife but some day I would like to see a reversable clip so us southpaws dont feel so left out in the cold :(

Winner! This is a bona fide contender for EDC. Right-side picture please. Where can we pre-order? :D

So is this an automatic knife? If so, it's prolly illegal for me to carry, but if now, perhaps i'll send for one in the not-too-distant-future. If it's an "assisted opener", how long do you think it'll last with everyday use? I'm not yet trusting of knives that have many internal components and all.

Wow, from what is visible, that looks like a sweet knife. But how does "Assisted Opening" mesh with Canadian Laws?

Regards,

Shaun.

I also wish that there were a non-assisted version. I know that technically it isn't a switchblade. But I have also noticed (at least) two separate incidences that were posted here on the forums about people having their assisted opening knives taken and or being charged with carry of a switchblade. One was in Washington State and the other in Texas (where they were being taken off of store shelves).

I really like the knife and when I first saw it I immediately considered buying it - I do that with a lot of knives ;) but the assisted opening kind of took the wind out of it. I don't want to be the one explaining to a uniform police officer that is going to take my knife, see it's not a switchblade because you don't press a button to open it. You have to start it manually and then it opens (just like a switchblade). I had my Cuda Maxx looked at by a P.O. once and was sure that he was going to have a problem with it. But all he wanted to know was how does it open. I used one of the flippers as a thumb stud to slowly (no quick flick) open it and after he could see there was no mechanism he gave the knife back. But in all honesty I was just in his line of sight and not the one that he was really interested in so his attention was elsewhere.

Why not offer a manual version? It would even be cheaper and I like the sound of that.

Ditto what Toothed said - may we see what the clip side looks like? Curious about tip up or down carry (or do we get both options ).

What will this gem weigh?

TIA

DDR said it's tip down only from Camillus.
I've been thinking about this, and wish y'all would read this thread, just as food for thought. Give us the tip-up option. That could happen with any tip down frame lock, liner lock, auto. Tip-up is safer anyway, but especially when you throw assisted opening with a flipper in the mix.

Just placed a preorder for one and they look to be going around the $160.00 mark with a May delivery.

I've had a tip up knife open in my pocket several times. More than a fe slices down my fingers. I have never had a tip down knife open in my pocket. The big issue in the link was the fact he had an auto in his pocket and it fired. That won't happen with a manual. Actually, the bottom line really has nothing to do with the knife itself, but with the person carrying the knife. Know your equipment. Whether tip up or tip down, it's your/our responsibility to handle our knives safely.

Dirk just said the magic words.......KNOW YOUR EQUIPMENT. I couldn't agree more.:)

Will the Dominator be user-convertible into a MA version just by taking out a spring?

Dirk, I hear ya, man. Different things work for different people. I don't want to turn this into a tip-up vs down thing-even though I managed to throw my opinion right on out there:footinmou , but I've gotta disagree a little. Assisted opening and a flipper sticking out where it can get bumped just don't sit well with me. I wind up in some weird positions around and in equipment at work, and my favorite pastime is wrestling around with a three year old (he doesn't belong to me, but I've been making offers to buy him for a couple of years now with no luck:(), which is what reminded me of the thread I linked to.
Darrel noted that you could convert it to tip-up, and that would be cool, if you're willing, but I can't help but think that a either/or clip would be a good option on the knife. If I didn't like the overall design so much, this could be a buy or don't buy kind of thing for me, and maybe some other people might feel the same. It just seems to me that the more people whose preferences you can appeal to, the more people are likely to buy the product-knife or anything else.
Btw, I am going to buy one, regardless;) That just looks to good to pass up.

edit: just making sure I make my smilie quota for the week... :p

I'm trackin' there Owen. I'm not really that passionate about the issue of Tip up or tip down. You have to go with what your experience tells ya. However, I am a little more passionate about knowing the equipment one carries.

I personally think it is a wise decision to give customers the option on moving the clip to their liking. I understand why Camillus doesn't. Which, is actually good for me, cause I get to do the conversion for those who ask. :)

I can do the clip for you on your Dominator when you get it. Drop me a line when it gets in.

Jon, I don't know what that would do to the warranty on the knife, but as i understand it, you should be able to make it manual. I'm sure we will get an official answer shortly.
