I hear you loud and clear - I keep finding interesting plumbing "fixes" from the former plumber that owned this place...and the three layers of shingles that have ice dammed and leaked...etc. Of course, it's just how I've learned all these carpentry skills 'cause I can't afford to pay someone and at least if I f it up I'll fix it instead of hiding it.

I know what you both mean. The previous owners of my house hid many many things and we suspect the inspector was on the take because there were two things that were so long out of code (like 20 years) that when the things broke we got in trouble, had to get permits, had to repair all the damage then had to upgrade everything just to get it back into the good graces of the city. I think the realtor was in on it too. I have wanted to do some very bad things to some very nasty people becuase we trusted people and they all burned us. Never trust anyone again, I'm done with that. BeckerHeads are the exception though:D

Thats the truth! Anything is better than nothing :)

Now the machete has no sheath either LMAO, but i never use it, its a cheap walmart one.
This things are gabage but the rivets hold it in place, I use one to house my Ontario, gotta have the blade guard to keep from damaging sheath and need to do some sewing, it works out for me.
Have been trying to find a WWII veteran on and off for about 5 or 6 years now. He was a good friend of my father in laws, in the 101st. Have found a few of his war buddies, dead, and alive. This one is giving me a fit. I can find where he's a silver star recipient, and can find his enlistment papers, but other than that, it's been a no go. I found one of his buddies in about 10 minutes, after I had the correct spelling of his name. Pop got to go visit him, but he has since passed. I found another friend of his (non WWII) in about 3 minutes, and was talking to him on the phone in 5. This one has been a toughy.

What's his name? My father has a pretty good list if addresses on 101st guys, I can ask him but wether he looks is a different story.

well. friend of mine is moving.

has a 15 or 17 foot sea kayak, perception name. flat panels over port seal for front and back. keel. basic seat. paddle. new thule racks (not the bars)...

money is really tight, but i figure i don't need sleep, so i'll work some extra shifts. mine.

"bit late in the season"

yeah, but mine.

i DO have room to store such things now. yar.
Nice! Maybe bring it up to Northeast and we could paddle? There's a lake or two up there somewhere...

Thanks Dubz. :) I was busy moving for a while and have just had a real busy summer since then. Have not been spending much time online. I recently bought a 600cc dirt bike and been a bit occupied playing with that too. :D

Nice bike! I had an 86 XR600R that the first owner had gotten titled, I had an enduro tail light and a squeeze bulb horn, lol. I rode that bike for 3 1/2 years straight, I explored about every drainage ditch in San Antonio. Every time anyone would ask to ride it, I would tell them you start it, you can ride it... just don't touch the gas when you kick it. That thing would throw you over the handlebars if you gave it gas when kicking it. Bored the cylinder and installed a wiseco chevy 350 piston. K&N filter in a custom box and a custom jet/carb job that took me a month to get it right. Header and SuperTrapp exhaust.. Lol, I miss that bike.. I sold it to finance a sport bike build and it is one of the few that I really miss.

"getting a round tuit"

A fine craft indeed sir. I believe our very own Biscuit paddles one. You are screwed now though. You can take big knives paddle camping. And other necessities such as rum in large quantities. :D

On a side note, I ordered a couple of paddles from the river store yesterday around noon. FedEx just dropped them off here at the house. Odd. They didn't sit in Earth City MO for a week then go to Australia for a while.

Killer bike Mauser. Ive had so many motorcycles in my life I cant count. grew up having dirt bikes. I really cant think on anything more fun that a day out in the wood with a good trail/dirt bike. Ive often threatened to get another good dual sport. But, I know I dont heal as quick as I used to, and as nuts ans Ive been known to get a injury would just be a matter of time, so I tend to just dream.

Thanks. 86 is a very collectable year. With the dual carbs and the only year getting the gold anodized wheels, I want one of those too. ;) The brakes and suspension are so much better in the later models though. This one is a 97. Its registered and street legal too. I don't need turn signals here, I use arm signals. I have the one required mirror on a ram mount so it folds up out of the way when off road. My original tail light housing has been modded to be a brake light too so i don't have to add a bigger brake light. Street legal and setting off car alarms everywhere I go.:D

I like this picture, its misleading because its a huge bike with a 37 inch seat height but looks small by my truck.

Thanks Todd. Its such a rush to ride this thing. I have not had a bike for quite a few years. Raising and homeschooling my daughters pretty much took over my life for a long time but they are getting older(and so am I) and its now or never for me I think. I pay for it every time I ride it by being sore as hell later but its too much fun to stop. Hmmm I wonder if this is my mid life crisis? If so I welcome it. :D If your ever in Colorado stop by and take it for a ride. :)

I bet psyop is sick of hearing about this jap bike already. :)

That's a good rig right there Dubz. I've got the same bag and put a roly-poly on the right hand side (and let it sit lower than the pack) for my water bottle. That felt better than anything for me.

You can kind of see it here.

Didn't want to clutter up the other thread when I saw this, but man that bidet looks way too tall.

A guy could hurt himself trying to use that.

Turns out, when you order a copy of "The Joy of Cooking 75th Anniversary Edition" from Amazon, Becker knives also show up.

I'm hoping to get it in time and convince Ethan to autograph it at the Fall Gathering, so I can give it to Miss Angie for her birthday in November. She was really impressed by him when they met, and she's a great cook... so I'm hoping that will be a nice present for her. Shhhhhh don't tell her! :D

Awesome gift! It's actually been on my Christmas / Birthday list for a couple of years. I may just have to remedy that by myself of nothing shows up soon. And a BK5...why did I ever get rid of that one?

Nice bike Mauser. Where I live if I ride anything louder then a sewing machine down my block a few old lady's call the police on me. Not fun when they give you tickets for it :(. Anyway I plan on taking an MSF course towards the end of next month, that is if they still have a spot available, and getting myself a dual sport (and a job :D).

You must have had a severe momentary lapse of reason! :D

I like mine so much, I'm having WW send me another! Lol

I like my 5, but I just can't seem to really get into it (if that makes sense). It's super great for Kitchen duty, but I have yet to see anyone using the 5 outdoors (except Surviormind) for anything but food prep. So, for that reason, I guess.....well, I'm afraid to use for anything else. Am I completely wrong about the 5? Will it really do the dirty work?

I dunno, maybe if I stripped it, got some better pants and added micarta it would probably be a beast....but....

Technical Question:

Most of the micarta scales I see on here is the rough surface type. But for some other high end blades I see micarta that is smooth and mirror like in finish and look. What is done differently to the smooth micarta?

It's usually sanded to a high grit then finished with oil. I think.

The Becker micarta is canvas (layers of heavy cloth in the resin) micarta, gives a nice grippy finish. Those high end blades are done in paper micarta - you guessed it - with much thinner, smoother layers in the resin, so you get a much smoother finished product. There are some great YouTube videos on how to make your own micarta, not really difficult looking at all. I'll let you know how mine turns out - once I carve out the time to make it!
