I took it out for a job interview 15 years ago, got the job and forgot to ever put it back in.

I realize that sounds rather odd if taken out of context...

I shaved my head in '94 (the rat tail wasn't covering up the bald spot that took over the rest of my head) and just kept adding to the ear hardware - except for the one cartilage piercing that wouldn't heal and I had to remove. Luckily for me I don't suffer from "Klingon head"...

Nice Josey Wales reference :)

I knew you cats would catch that. There've been quite a few awesome movie references the last few pages; I wanted to play along, too. :D

Only about an acre and a quarter...

Congrats! That's actually plenty for a modest home and productive garden, with a little left over for just leaving a windbreak of trees. Especially if it's not hemmed-in by neighbors.

Our 5-year plan is to sell our properties and get out of the 'burbs. As long as there's power/water/internet access and room for my shop, my main priority is being far enough from neighbors that no one will see me wander around the yard naked or hear me shoot a bunny in the garden. Outlying land is stupid cheap around here; for the assessed value of the house we're in now we could get something pretty similar on 20-50 wooded acres 30-45 minutes from town...

I wore a single small sterling ring for years. Had a danglier one I made with a Gibson Heavy guitar pick for a while, but I gave up on that when I woke up with it tangled in my hair one morning after a long night and nearly ripped my earlobe off trying to shake it loose.

Thanks man! And there is no neighbors for about a half mile or so!!! I will be putting a double wide mobile home on it. The closest neighbors also live in doublewides. I only plan to clear 1/4 acre for the homesite, then 50x50' for a veggie garden. Im keeping every tree i can.

I have grown veggies and herbs all my life, I took dendrology and agriculture for fun as a middle school student. I completely plan to have a full garden :) First time since i was a kid i will have enough room to do so.

There is a lot next to it that is 2.5 acres. The owner is not listing it for sale, but I have been talking to him, he doesnt live there and has no plans to move there. Im hoping I can in the future buy it from him lmao, but if not, Im happy to know the 2.5 acres next door will stay vacant and wooded. There is more than 20 acres of just woods touching the property. I hunted for a piece of land just like this lmao.

We are on the same page, for sure. I wish you the very best in your endeavors.

In other news, I just realized my crappy wireless phone has been dead as a doornail for two days, and I may have missed a rather important call from someone I deeply respect. I'm confident it will work out, though.

In other, (but related) news, this...

Please allow me to propose a toast and dedicate a song to all my mentors, friends and clients past, present and future, and to the mods and owner of BladeForums, who make it possible... this forum rocks. I would absolutely not be where I am if it wasn't for all of you, and I'm tremendously grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of your community.

Thanks to the people here for their great suggestions about gear, I am finally going to get serious and build some GHBs and BOBs for my family. I bought these packs mostly based on the input I read in this forum.

Now the big decisions are what to put in them and what to leave out!

I'm no expert, but I've found that "what to leave out" is the difficult part ;) I'm just way too fat and lazy to hump everything I "might" need or want :D Generally it comes down to a serious knife, first-aid kit, firemaking stuff, a poncho, extra socks, lots of cordage and some comforting snacks and beverages.

Mostly the knife, snacks and beverages. :o

If I strap the knife to the outside of the pack, then I can put 2 six packs and a bottle of scotch inside. That will eliminate the fire starter and stove. Slim Jims can be threaded through the Pals webbing and I'm good to go.

Pueblo.... I cant say that I have....

But you have these laws... they are just awesome.... And let people be free to decide for themselves what they want to do instead of being led like sheep to slaughter. One of the only 2 states so far that has any sense at all.

While I don't disagree about the pot issue, perhaps you haven't heard about the asinine gun control that got passed here recently. It'll probably get repealed by next year, but still, if we're gonna talk about freedom, gun rights are first and foremost. Washington de-criminalized pot too and they have much better gun laws. The mayor of Seattle despises legal gun owners but eastern WA is a nice area.

It's also important to note that it's still a federal crime. The feds aren't likely to come after the individual users but it's still something that people need to remember.

On a lighter note, my packages came today. Condor Matagi (think CS Bushman but beefed WAY up), 14" tram machete, and 12" Ontario machete. I'm getting quite a decent accumulation of machetes going. And both the new ones fit decently into my Marbles scout machete sheath so no hurry to get sheaths for them. Probably whip up some blade covers from the cardboard boxes and some packing tape just for safety's sake.

The sheath for the matagi is typical Condor, except the design is terrible. The sheath has no retention of the knife at all and the swivel belt loop is too close to the balance point of the knife making it way too easy for the sheath to invert and let the knife fall out. I'll probably try wet-forming it to see if I can get some retention of the blade, but I think kydex will be in order. I have a CS bowie bushman with the old codura sheath and I'd like to get a regular bushman with the new securex sheath and do a full comparison/review.

I'm walking next to this dude. Throw a couple Bic lighters in there, and we're tearin' it up. :D

Since I think that I am, shall we say, a tad out of shape, I don't want to walk too far before I start to lighten the pack.

alas, this is the only pic on my phone:
