Really cool of you redden hrmm what I like about the porch? I think it has to be the kindness here and the generosity it speaks volumes about the people here.

Lol sorry about the triple pics wifi acting funny

So nice you posted it thrice!

I think I meet the criteria and I love these traditional forums for the information and camaraderie. I am new to traditionals and there is no shortage of people who are willing to answer my often dumb questions. Here is one of my favorites, not owned , but , lent by a generous member so that I could experience the knife I wish for. Thank you for the chance

Randy, If I am worthy of another helping of your generosity, I am in. There is a great mix of folks and there have been some great discussions in which I've learned a lot and seen some beautiful custom works of art as well as oldies that are of some of the best examples anywhere. There are makers like Ken Erickson, Tony Bose, and Kerry Hampton who have shared so much with us. There are those involved in manufacturing like Eric. There are collectors like you and Charlie. It is the whole group that makes this forum what it is. It wouldn't be the same without any one of you.

I'm in :)

To be perfectly honest, I'm not familiar with the porch except for some of the threads running here mentioning the porch. Somehow all the posts evoke a feeling of gratitude, brotherhood, solidarity and even kinship. Its like the porch is where traditional knife enthusiasts converge to help each other enjoy what our traditional knives can offer, physically, emotionally and psychologically.

Good luck to all who will join!

And thank you, Mr Randy, for this opportunity!

Randy, what an incredible giveaway! Extremely generous of you! I'm definitely in!

What do I like about the Porch? First of all, it's just about the friendliest place on the internet. Second, we've got some incredibly knowledgable folks here who generously share that knowledge -- sometimes answering the same questions again, and again, and again -- without complaint. And finally, you've got a group of folks here who (for the most part ) are open-minded, accepting and judgment-free; whether you're into Rough Riders or Tony Bose, whether you're only interested in vintage knives or you can't wait for the next GEC release, no one here is going to put you down, tell you your opinion is wrong or make you feel unwelcome.

Here's my traditional knife photo as required for entry:

Now I just have to hope that I'm in good standing... :D

*Not an entry*

I probably don't post enough here anyway I just pop in now and then to share a picture or reply to a nice post.

but I wanted to just leave a note ... things like this GAW ... and the stories I get to read of someone getting a surprise in the mail and thinking of the smile and feeling those people get ... and the smile and feeling the generous person on the other end gets sharing something so simple ... that can mean so much.

Good to come in and know I can pull up a chair now and then.

Great idea ... great subforum

I'm in.

Real materials, respect for the knifemaker's art, tools whose designs have stood the test of time, and understanding that these are objects meant to be used as much as admired: All reasons I look forward to coming by here.

I love the porch. I am a member of many many forums ranging across the vast range of hobbies I take part in but this forum, and the Traditional section in particular is full of the best members and contributors I have encountered. I enjoy seeing what everyone is carrying, what new items they have on the way or are in the middle of modifying and the different kinds and brands that each person prefers and why. The generosity and wealth of knowledge is outstanding as well!

The knife in the picture is emblematic of my favorite thing about the porch: The generosity.

That Barlow was the first traditional knife I had as an adult. I wandered onto the porch and asked for advice on what kind of knife to get to dip my toes in the world of traditionals. Immediately someone (@EyeDog ) popped up and offered me a knife for free! I had tried entering GAWs before that, but never won any of them. Since then it seems like my luck turned, and now I try not to enter too many of the GAWs because I have had such amazing luck on the porch.

This GAW is another great example of the generosity on this forum.

I'm in! This is an amazing giveaway, thanks for the chance. Being rather new to buying knives and to this forum, it's been very enlightening to read (and see) opinions and ideas from all perspectives without judgement. It's helped me immeasurably already to start to understand what things are important to me in a knife. Oh, and made me want to buy more and more! :) This is my latest acquisition.

I'm in, if I'm in good standing, anyway.
I can't post pictures, my "smart" phone is not smart enough to do that.
What I like about the porch is the friendliness, generosity, respect, knowledge shared ... As others have said, the porch is the friendliest place on the web. There is no "If you don't own __(brand)__ you don't have EEEEEEEEP ***CENSURED*** " prejudices.
Being one who cannot afford the top brands of anything, that lack of prejudice is important to me.

Thank you for the chance, my friend. And good luck to everyone. :)

Well the thing I like most like many others is the Amazing acts of kindness and true friendship that can be witnessed on here on a Daly basis :) It's a very nice thing to witness at anytime but especially on the days I find myself turning off the news and shaking my head at some of the hate and complete heatbreak that's happening all around the would. Witnessing all the kindness that goes on here proves there's still lots of good kind people in the world. That alone is worth far more then the cost of a membership I'd say. Oh and I'm in thank you for the opportunity. :)

Wow, this is such a generous giveaway and I would love to own a GEC knife which is something I cannot afford.

This is one of my favorite pictures of my favorite fixed blade, and in fact I love it so much that 8 different pictures of my knife ( as well as a whole bunch of knife pictures of mine ) are in the top search results on Google images if you search the imperial H6 fixed blade. Ok that probably doesn't necessarily show how much I love it, just how much I take pictures of it :D.

Now enough of that, why do I love the porch ?

Well, it's the people and the ability to get along.
We all love traditional knives and there's nothing about them to argue over. Nothing is better than something else, it just boils down to what appeals to you and were all in the same boat so there's nothing to judge.
Then there's the generational diversity . You've got those my age who really got started here with memories of their grandfather, those who are " experienced " enough to be that grandfather, and everything in between.
This place bridges age gaps pretty well because these knives just speak to people, and they drew us all here.
You guys being so great doesn't hurt either
I also love how this place surfaced my subconscious love of traditional knives.
As a kid / teenager Tac-force...ect was the thing, and I bought and carried way more of this type. smaller traditionals / 2 hand opener's were still something I bought for some reason though i couldn't keep them in my pocket. I still acquired others after becoming an adult, but just couldn't give them much pocket time at all till I showed up here. I saw all of these beautiful knives and thought to myself " if my grandfather could carry nothing but a Vic Classic for years, I can give my sodbuster jr a real chance " . Of course I was also enabled by a few generous members here and there and it was hard to look back.

I was not a member very long when I had started a post which really boiled down to an interest In trying a Barlow ( not exactly the subject but was really the heart of the matter )
And out of the blue r8shell offered me an old shell imperial example.
To not even know me, but offer me a knife to help my traditional knife journey was so generous. That was over a year ago and I still won't let it be forgotten Because I just love the knife so much, and it's not just the knife itself but the great act of generosity attached to it that I love.
